Our last childminder was earning about €40K a year by my estimate; four kids, nine hours a day (8-5PM) 40 euro a day per kid. One of the kids was only three days I think so maybe a bit less. She was worth every penny and worked like a Trojan.

We all are different. Some of us get paid more, some less. You should embrace the difference, and see to it that in the end... you stretch yourself as far as the pay slip allows you to. Oh, you can't be arsed? Oh you don't have the skills? Oh you chose a field which is heavily under-rated? Oh, you work for the government side that pays shit?

I saw in the news the govt is looking at raising it from 1:4 to 1:8 for adults to kids in childcare so they may be paid more in the future.
