Crikey, you think someone who knows about ISOs won't know what a tripod does?

Tripods are expensive and I can't afford ~£100.

Well, I was travelling on the M25 on Sunday night to Epsom. Meant to be an hour twenty journey, lasted over five hours, was hairy as hell. Saw three crashes, two more cars lose control but not hit anything, and two ambulances going to two more crashes. They hadn't gritted the motorway at all, and it was just madness. I had to abandon my car and walk the last part when I got into Eposom because I couldn't get any traction at all.

The event I was supposed to be doing was cancelled, but I couldn't leave because there was about fifteen inches of snow, so I've only just got home.

i've worked out the problem, you dont see any of those Grit boxes in London at all

Growing up in Scotland every street had a yellow grit box somewhere on the road

IMG_6866.JPG

So everyone has to rely on the council gritting stuff

I've been through a lot of tripods. All of them around that price are 1) not stable/sturdy enough or 2) have an awful build quality and break in a month.

The only good tripods I've used have been over £100 professional style jobbies. No point having a make-do or budget tripod as they're nothing but trouble.

What a nightmare -at least you are home safe now:clap:
I am due to be going to a gig tonight in Bournemouth. Not sure what to do. The main roads seem clear now? And I dont think it is as bad down there?

I left a friends house at 11pm on Sunday night and skidded all the way home -cars were like dodgems and people were coming out of the pub and just sliding on their arses. I have stayed car -free since then, playing with the kids and checking neighbours, stocking the fire and baking. What a mum!

Really want to go tonight, but dont want to get stranded...

i guess i must be lucky, saying that i use mine mostly for in studio work and not the great outdoors where it will be challenged by the elements

That'll be it then, I never do studio work and base nearly everything I do outside. They always start off good "wow this is good quality for the price" but then the head snaps off or something and you realise why it was cheap :D

Yeah it'll be the lugging around outside that killed the cheap ones

can you recommend a good tripod and a monopod please? 100 quid mark for each is ok.

Motorways are a lot better today, BUT there is still some black ice on the roads, and if the temperatures drop it would be wise to take it nice and slow. I don't know the route to Bournemouth, so can't speak for it precisely though - I was driving through Surrey and Kent. The drive back today was pretty cool, but I say that as someone who got excited on Sunday when the speed she was travelling at actually registered on the speedometer, so I was happy as a pig in poop to do 50 the whole way back.

Ello Darlin!

I've been out and about a bit this afternoon and it's cleared up alot... the main roads should be absolutely fine, I would say, so go and have fun!

I've been working from home today and yesterday, and I also have had the 'I'm home and it's only 6, I might aswell do some cooking' attacks, making fresh pasta and such.... Mrs J is moaning at me that she'll be putting on weight! :p

These were from yesterday morning, the Basingstoke Canal and the railway track that runs along side it, taken from either side of the bridge above

Anyone notice how much better the world is when its snowing like this?

People too, specifically.

I walked down the high street in Rushden this morning to get some fresh air and just have a mooch, as I love the snow. Very picturesque.

On the way, came across some bloke stuck in a drift. Helped him out, with a postman gave him a push and sorted him out. Had a chat and a laugh whilst doing it.

Further down, passed a notorious trouble spot. Usual gang of 15/16 years olds gathered outside. Normally I'd expect a bit of shouting, bit of rudeness etc. No, not even a snowball - busy building 2 large snowmen, all laughing and enjoying themselves. Even asked me what I thought!

Everyone I passed raised a smile or said hello, some passing comment on the snow "Not seen it like this here since I was a kid" and the likes.

Lots of people helping eachother out in general - a van was stuck in a side street and was being helped out by a stranger in a land rover. Good to watch.

Shame it can't be like this all the time.

Probably because in this country we work so many hours its too easy to fall into a routine that can't be broken. As soon as something like this happens it has to be broken and its a welcome change. I think everyone in the private sector deserves a day off when it snows :)
