It may seem nice on the surface Kryt, but here in London the roads are fucked. Main roads were only gritted come monday. Side roads have not been touched. All the snow has turned to ice on the roads and pavements. Where we live, two roads from the main road, it is suicide trying to get to the main road and shops, driving there is out of the question.

Yeah the snow is nice and lovely, but it causes chaos and issues for a lot of people. If I have trouble walking places what about the elderly? The orads will also be a mess when the ice clears, and the councils will spend more money than they would have gritting and salting on road works to resurface.

Oh well that goes without saying - pretty much most the roads here are fucked, but not down to excess snow, but to people not being able to drive safely on it. None of the local main roads are useable because of that alone.

Yay I just got told not to go into work because the hospital has suspended operations. Day off work woohoo!!

The disappointing thing is because I live on the coast the snow melts in less time than it takes to settle, its now slush outside :(

I am flying back to the UK on Monday, into London, the weather forecast seems to indicate rain, is public transport still likely to be screwed?

London public transport is running fine now, unless a LOT of snow happens between now and monday you wont be affected. There is now virtually no snow anywhere in london, the vast majority of it has melted and trickled away into the thames.

It may snow again tonight Cadelin, but with hindsight from Sunday/Monday they may actually grit this time. Weather is meant to be good on this Sunday anyway, and that should melt away any remaining ice and sludge.

Grit?

Can you send me some? :(

It's very heavy snow here still, and the roads are absolutely dreadful regardless of how you look at it. However they would be perfectly safe and driveable if the gritters would allocate anything (or had any grit to allocate) to this area. So if we can get to the main roads we're ok, but we need to kill 35 pedestrians and write off at least 4 other vehicles to get to them :/

The councils need shooting. Definitely a "It'll never happen to us" approach similar to flooding.

Seems to be a lot of bitching about Gritting recently.
