Mini ITX based PC's are shweet, but overpriced and underpowered. Would make a nice Word Processor or MP3 server or something though. :D

Crikey, that's amazing. Some companies are still charging that for the 9700 Pro :D Shame I don't have £286 lying around ;)

SN45G review = http://www.amdzone.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1290

More or less the same but with support for 400FSB processors and no onboard Video, plus optical out is now located on the back meaning the cleans lines of the SN45G remain unaltered by ugly cables.

The limited overclocking ability has been improved by allowing voltage modifying.

I knew there was a reason I loved you Embattle ;) hehe, thanks for both those links, you're a star :D

Just on a really superficial point, but would anyone else have prefered the new SN45G to come in the newer G2 style casing (like the SN41G2, for example)?

Kind Regards

I would, but then I wish they would stop churning out silver cases when you can't get a bloomin DVD/CD-RW for them :(

Very true :) Apparently Shuttle are in talks with manufacturers to produce their own line of optical drives with the same brushed aluminium finish. Until then, perhaps this is why the SN41G2B has been released (SN41G2 is a special edition black finish, and very nice it is too :)).

Stealthing a beige drive is simplicity in itself, so long as its a draw type one and not a slot.

Have a look

Hi guys

It seems the Shuttle SN45G is now available to purchase in the UK. Overclockers UK have it for £227.89 inc. VAT exc. P&P, or from MicroDirect for £217.38, also inc. VAT exc. P&P. Bare in mind that prices usually drop after launch (the SN41G2 was first available for between £270-300, and now hovers around £215-230).

Here's the description Overclockers UK give the system . . .

SN45G
The new SN45G offers the similar features to the best selling SN41G2 but uses the new NVIDIA nForce2 Ultra 400 north bridge chipset with full 400 MHz FSB CPU support. The SN45G incorporates Dolby® Digital 5.1 audio playback and an AGP 8X slot for future graphics expansion. For digital connectivity, the SN45G has four USB 2.0 and three FireWire® ports for easy connection to high-speed digital cameras, MP3 players, and other popular digital consumer devices. The SN45G also makes use of Shuttle’s patented Integrated Cooling Engine technology (ICE), which allows the efficient cooling of high speed processors, such as the AMD Athlon™ XP 3200+ (Athlon XP 400 MHz FSB CPU support), without the fan noise associated with traditional high-end PCs.

No onboard video helped keep the price lower.

I got my B&D RT650 ;)

hehe, I was just going to post that link Embattle :p It seems the MSI Mega PC is available to purchase for £269.08 from Overclockers UK. Hopefully a few more reviews will be out very soon to confirm the seemingly positive response which has met these systems thus far.

As yet there's still no word on the AMD version of these, but hopefully one will follow soon enough.

Kind Regards

Sounds pretty good :D For the price, I think it's quite a nice system just to sit in the living room. I wonder if Microsoft have any plans to ship their Media Centre version of Windows with this system? If they did, then it would really rock :D However, I suppose comparing it to a Shuttle system, the MSI loses out in terms of 'hardcore' gaming potential.

Kind Regards

Woohoo! 200th Post

Yeah *ahem* I believe Hexus have the MSI and SN45G in for testing, so hopefully their reviews will follow soon :)

SN45G Special Offer

Hi guys

Just a quick post for those interested in picking up a cheap(er) SN45G: MicroDirect are selling them for £203.86, which even after the huge postage costs still works out at around £20 cheaper than everywhere else. Anyway, it's quite a good deal all things considered, but sadly it lasts only until Monday.

Kind Regards

Jonty

P.S. It seems I'm getting into a bad habit of plugging these people, for which I apologise, but a £20-30 saving isn't to be sniffed at.

PCFormat MSI Mega PC Review

Hi guys

Just because this thread refuses to die, I thought I'd post a quick review from PCFormat of MSI's Mega PC. Not quite as taken with it as some web reviewers, it nevertheless scored a respectable 85%.

  • Pros Hi-Fi looks, LCD screen, remote control
  • Cons Quite costly, surely it should come with Media Centre?
  • Overall The next evolution of the lounge PC, although lacking some crucial features

It's only a small review, but quite concise.

Kind Regards

Jonty

P.S. For anyone interested, it's in issue 150 of PCFormat UK, which I stopped buying because of the price, but was pleasantly surprised when I picked up this copy. </plug> :D

ATi Powered Pentium 4 Shuttle

Hi guys

I'm not too sure where these details come from, but apparently there's an ATi powered Pentium 4 Shuttle system on the way . . .

  • Pentium 4 Socket 478 533/400MHz FSB processor
  • ATI RS300 Northbridge, IXP200 Southbridge
  • Dual-channel DDR400 (up to 2Gb)
  • Integrated Radeon 9000 graphics
  • Realtek 650F 6-ch. sound
  • Broadcom 4401/5788 10/100/1000 LAN
  • AGP8X, 1 x 32-bit PCI slot
  • S-Video, NSTC/PAL, 1024 x 768
  • USB2.0, Advanced Firewire 400
  • Serial ATA, RAID 0,1
  • ICE (Integrated Cooling Engine)

Apparently it's set to look like a black SN45G. I'll try and confirm these details when next I'm free.

Kind Regards

That might be just what I've been waiting for. Wonder how the radeon 9000 integrated shapes up (would it beat my Radeon 8500 mewonders ?!?)

Hi smurkin

I believe the Radeon 8500 should outperform a 9000, despite the naming conventions. That said, it's perhaps a little too early to really put this integrated solution to the test, as it may differ significantly from the standalone Radeon 9000 chip.

Just on a side note, the system will apparently ship sometime this summer.

Kind Regards

You're never going to get a great onboard video solution due to cost considerations.

Perhaps you're right, Embattle :( And with Shuttle systems, space also becomes an important consideration, as the current motherboards are rather densely packed as it is. Still, at least ATi's onboard solutions will be better than Intel's noble, but ultimately underpowered, efforts.

Kind Regards
