I don't, and have never lived on a council estate, but one of my flatmates still does when not at uni, and he isn't a chav.

You more than anyone should appreciate how hard it is for "decent" families who live on council estates? So many here from the rural heart of (fuck knows where) that are quick to criticise life on a council estate from the bedroom of their parents 4 bed semi..... :wanker:

Crapest point of view.

At the end of the day its down to the parents almost completely.

Best point of view.

My parents are from large, very poor families and before I was born lived on a run down council estate in the west of Scotland. I was born, and shortly after we moved to private housing yet I grew up and socialised with a lot of council kids. I started to slip into bad behaivour habits, but my dad soon put a stop to that - a swift slap and throw across the room and banning me from seeing certain friends soon sorted me out; pretty much what a lot of teenagers need these days, a good fucking slap.

When I moved to the east coast of Scotland, I went to a Catholic school where there was the same mix of council/private housing kids; however due to some solid good Catholic values and strict parenting, the council kids were equally disciplined.

Where I live now, five minutes away lives the youngest mother-to-be in the UK ever recorded (source: The Sun  ) - preagnant at 11, due to give birth at 12 - the father is 15.

What does her mother say to it? "I'm proud of her". Ergo, sort out the parenting.

Perhaps those at the bottom of the social scale shouldn't be allowed to reproduce, thus preventing further idiots permiating society. At least, the benefits system would breathe a sigh of relief and there would be more tax to go round on more important things such as education / health.

Strangely enough my background is rather nice :) My dad has been a very successful businessman all his life, you know the jag driving type, my aunt was high up in the Thorntons chocolate company until her retirement, etc etc.
However , my dad played around a lot, in that true 1970's style, and by the time I was about 13 he and my mum had split up. My mum couldnt really control me or my brother, and I went kinda " off the rails" as they say :) I did lots of naughty things and in the end, when I met my (now) wife and sorted myself out, I was 21 or so, and sometimes its too late to go back. My wife also had a tough upbringing to be honest, much much tougher than anything I could imagine.
Anyway, the result was this, when we had kids, we wanted to give them everything we could, and make sure they had good lives. Result? They are pretty decent kids.
Simple really ...
