One of the perverse things about the current political situation in the UK is that it looks like you English are shortly going to have a Scottish Prime Minister and mainly senior Scottish cabinet ministers. They'll be able to legislate and vote on things for England (like transport and education) that English MPs can't affect in Scotland ('cause these are devolved matters). Votes in Westminster have been won and lost recently purely on the strength of Scottish, Welsh and N. Ireland MPs voting.

Aye and watch how long they stay in power for.

Absolute bollocks. One could argue that it is London and the south east that's subsidised.

* British Library - £0.5 billion

and that's just in the last 10 years. Add to that the fact that fact that the British taxpayer is paying through the nose to have the majority of civil servants employed in London, at London wages. It costs Scottish taxpayers £146 million to employ civil servants in London as opposed to Scotland.

Gordon Brown estimates that revenue from North Sea oil will be around £10 billion this year. Oil prices are rising, and we'll get to the point where revenue from oil is puring down to London at the rate of £1 billion a month. Who's subsidising who again?
