The artifacts I use are GoV, SoM, Malice, Battler for charge and CB.

I couldn't fit Winged Helm into my template, but if you can manage it then it is awesome for the Aura.

The Magma Defender shield from ML7.7 has a lovely heal proc if you can get your hands on one as well. Then I'd look at things like the Plaited Malamis belt, Harpy Feather Charm or Eerie Darkness Stone for resists and SoM Plate boots are nice too :)

Other then that, don't forget the basics. +11 Shield and Slash, cap resists (if you have to gimp something then gimp Matter), and try and get Str, Con and Dex all higher then 90. You ought to aim for 250 Qui ultimately to decrease Slam delay and help you swing Malice faster.

As far as RAs go, I'd focus on getting Purge II and IP II before anything else. Then you can think about getting some passives.

That's it!

It’s a hard question to answer, as I haven’t been given any specifics as to your playstyle. So, here’s my opinion on a paladin’s role and some answers to your questions.

Battlemaster is far superior to warlord because of bodyguard and grapple. As well as the ability to buff sheer opponents that are attacking your guarded casters.

A paladin is primarily a defensive char. To warrant a paladin’s place in a group, it must be used to the greatest of its utility. The basic roles of an RVR paladin (depending on spec) are:

-Bodyguard casters (primarily) – ML8 Battlemaster, prevents target being hit in melee (apart from arrows).
-Slam (if shield specced) targets to help the assist train, and give a timeframe for realm-mates to escape harm.
-Assist (mainly if 2-handed spec) the train. 2h line has snare and stun follow-up in both back and side chains.
-Provide endurance to tanks and casters alike.

Battles don’t often stay in a small area. Realm-mates will spread out, and for this, you need to be on your toes at all times.

Personally, if I played a BG paladin, I’d choose a 2h spec – providing defense for casters and damage/snare/stun to help the assist train. Sadly, paladins can’t spec 42 shield as well as weapon type/2h and chants – so something has to be sacrificed.

As a BGer, you need as many hit points and defensive bonuses as possible, as you’ll be the next choice of target after the caster/cleric you’re bodyguarding. Maximising constitution, hit points, melee + elemental resists, as well as parry and dexterity (helps parry). Str and melee bonuses should not be on top priority, but are still important if you wish to do any time of damage. Going 2h means you miss out on a second weapon for template SC utility, so templates tend to be more expensive/harder to make than sword and shield. Quickness will increase your damage over time, and is important if playing a slam paladin.

Anger of the Gods is a nice RA, although more likely to be useful at higher realm ranks. This adds a large damage add to your merc assist train friends (which they’ll thank you for). Vehement Renewal can also be useful (group insta healing all apart from yourself). In general, I’d get a high level of purge (so you are always available for BG), determination, then move onto the added extras like AotG etc.

In terms of artifacts, the world *could* be your oyster. Scalars is a good morph for hiding your class; people usually take a while to notice you’re BGing someone, and confusing the enemy is always good. SoM will help a LOT. Proccing 200hp melee buffers is, in essence, free hit points. Malice proc is great to help against attackers, but for assist train I’d recommend a haste-proc weapon (which stacks with theurg haste).

Overall, it’s a fun class and rewarding if played well. Good luck!!

For soloing, both ML's can be nice, Warguard (ML10 Warlord) makes you virtually melee-immune, the scare-pet shout is nice, so is some other tools from Warlord.

Battlemaster is better for grouping, because you can bodyguard and grapple.

thank you alot for that answer :). the playsyle i like to play is being frontliner. i know pallys are quite weak at dishing out damage and are more defensive. so i'll respec to battlemaster then since i know the advantages now.

still malice is an problem for me yet.

but now i know something to work around.

Why's it a problem? You mentioned Rollback...you mean you did the encounter then it disappeared? Or you just need the arti or?

i had the artifact activated and lost it, that's what i mean. i lost it when the server rollback was, even tho i didn't play at that time.
I've contacted rightnow and sent an recovery request. i reactivated acc about 2 weeks ago and that's when i noticed.

Only way you can lose an artifact is by dropping it on the floor. If this is the case then yes, you won't get it back.

If it disappeared because of some kind of rollback or bug, contact GMs via Rightnow, who will be more than happy to help.

Right! That wasn't actually a rollback. If you've reported it, it'll get restored (eventually).

no there aren't any. shield of khaos & harpy cloak disorient isn't bad either for poking at high rr assist train.

Prydwen had some issues. People lost a lot of items. GMs asked people to report exactly what they lost and they are replaced/reimbursed.

Use Rightnow and explain, they will help.

Eggys post sums it up pretty good. The most important thing for a pally to remeber is as Eggy says "A paladin is primarily a defensive char". Almost every time I forget that it usually end up badly.

As for temp resists are your friend. For RA I got AoM3 and like it. Purge 2 isnt a must as a pally, ver nice to have but not a must as for the first few seconds of a fight you usually dont do much except looking around and see what gonna happen and sort out your tactics.

Qbind bodyguard and make a /t macro to who you BG.

About the "fun class and rewarding if played well", he is right but it takes some time to get used to it. And remeber..."A paladin is primarily a defensive char".
