The real problem here is that the BBC saw fit to employ a 25 year old producer to control the show. 25 years old ffs. I'm divided on this. You have two comedians, well, one and a bit, and they're playing off of each other, and it's the role of the producers to really stop things getting out of hand. I'm not saying they have no personal responsibility, it's just when you get two people firing off of each other it's hard to sometimes recognise where the line is. However, phoning up a guy in his late seventies and talking about screwing his grand daughter was cruel in the extreme, and phoning him again and again, talking about using a condom and so forth was just vicious. It would be different if it was privately funded, but with the licence fee paid by the public there has to be higher standards to be adhered to.

I think what they did goes way beyond the bounds of good taste - if it had been a live show thats more understandable but somebody actually listened to this and said 'fine broadcast it!?'.

Then when the beeb gets complaints from Sachs agent they still failed to listen to it again and ended up broadcasting it - very silly - alarm bells should have been ringing and the whole thing could have been avoided.

Finally it irks me that I am forced to pay a license fee for these immature ramblings - ross is well past his sell by date and brand is just a nob.

The Beeb should not be spending its cash trying to ape the lowest commercial radio stations...

Yes, it is funny, but if someone phoned up one of my elderly relatives to gloat about screwing me, and broadcast it to the world, then I'd want to rip out their lungs and slap them to death with them. You can be funny and cruel and push the boundaries without ruining people's lives. A hundred and one comedians manage it. The fact that they can't reflects very poorly on them, and the whole of the BBC.

If it had been a pure sketch it could have been funny but when it drags in an innocent party and mocks them to get a cheap laugh I dont think its funny.

The legal definition of obscene is complicated but I would guess that there probably would be enough for a valid case here - broadcasting it to hundreds of thousands would also be a big aggravating factor.

There was absolutely no need for some poor old bloke to be the foil for their humour though. They could have chatted about anything and between the two of them made it amusing.
