Recommend me a single-player FPS

I'm looking for a single-player FPS to play on my PC, I've completed the Medal of Honor: Allied Assault series (inc Spearhead & Breakthrough), which I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm looking for something similar to this, where single-player is just you and a gun, no team to order around & protect (like raven shield, rainbox six), and no weird creature/alien things (like Far Cry, Doom).

I played the demo of CoD4, which was good, is the CoD series all single player, or is it team based stuff like the Tom Clancy games?

Any I've missed?

I hate to admit it, but CoD4 looks superb. Id say get that no worries.

MP is a load of nade spam nonsense, but SP is very good, despite me expecting it to be shite, Ill have to admit it.

CoD4 is awsome but i dont know if it's worth buying ust for its singleplayer.

CoD4 is worth it even for single-palyer. Bit short though. I'd also recommend the Orange Box, for Portal if nothing else.

Yeah I've got the Orange Box, TF2 is great fun (but only when my ISP decide i should have a ping of 50 instead of the usual 200).

Are the other CoDs worth getting too, I've seen both 2 & 3 in Game in their "cut price" bits.

Yer like others said, it's worth getting CoD4 just for the single player. I've barely touched the multiplayer, think it's a pile of wank personally. :p

Hmm single player... only ones that that pop to mind are

Quake 4 (play it on hardest difficulty or its no fun)
Rainbow Six Vegas (Amazing game on realistic difficulty)
Crysis (only downsides to crysis is - predictable story line and its very easy even on the highest difficulty setting)
Clive Barkers Jericho (Quite fun and something different.. bit of a mix between Rainbow Six / Quake 4)

As I said to someone online, most of these SP games are just for people not good enough to play CSS :p

However, the single player is very good.

I don't understand people who think CSS is a good game :/ i mean CS by far a better game ( no, am not talking about the graphic ^^ )

If you want a game with you and a gun, try the old Serious Sam games or Red Faction the first Ghost Recon as its still the best.

Or a newer game UT3

It isnt mate. It just isnt.

Maybe 6 months after source came out, maybe then, but not now. I played cs from 1.0 until the day source came out, and have played source since then. The exodus to source continues every day, generally the only people who go on about 1.6 being better are either people with aweful pc's, people who are scared to change because they might be shit at the new game, or people who dont actually play cs OR css a lot, but just like to offer a so-called "leet" opinion.

Present company excepted Im sure :)

DODS and CSS were built on the same version of the Source engine and its, well, a bit cack. the new TF2 one is better, they are porting the others over. i dont know how bad the problems are in CSS but i know DODS is riddled with engine bugs, and reg problems

Well, I bought Medal of Honor: Airbourne the other day (I ordered CoD4 Collectors Edition [as it was cheaper], but GAME decided they'd ran out of stock), just completed a first run through, was very good fun. Loads of potential too, with different landing spots to find and weapon upgrades, could perhaps do with having more missions though.

Can only back this statement, Vegas is a great game, good storyline too. You will enjoy this SP Jingle.

Big ole can of worms! Wize, what rubbish. CS has always been about evolution. It was never a finished game, no matter what version number they stamped on it. CS is a chase for perfection, not just in term of big fixes but playability and balancing. I wish I could dig out old BW posts on the changes from one beta of cs to the next. Yes there have been versions that people prefer, but usually because they cannot adapt to the changes.

CSS is far superior in every aspect to the original CS engine, having said that I do not play either anymore. Not because I do not like the changes, but because online PC gaming makes baby Jebus weep.

CSS and DOD:Source need all the original maps that were in them back when they were mods.

No they don't. Like I said, evolution. Changing the maps in CS has always been done. It's done to get rid of bugs, remove unbalanced maps, remove maps that are not being played enough. It keeps the game competitive and fresh, one of the reasons it has been so popular over the years. Server admins are free to put any maps in their map cycles =if they don't include certain maps you have to ask yourself why?

Sure I had a blast playing 747, rotterdam, backalley and the like, but there was a reason that they hardly ever got voted on or included in map cycles. You cannot fight the majoirty.

map voting in and of itself is spawn of the devil tho. yay for servers that just have CS Dust, or whatever 24/7 and NOTHING else => boring !

Have to agree, plus would add Hellgate to that list, fun game.
