Is it difficult to dispose a fridge properly in the UK?

We just take it to the recycling/landfill(idk the English word) and that’s that..

This seems like more work tbh

Same here in the US, except in Sweden you can dump it for free (Recycling) and here you have to pay... by the ton with a $10 minimum fee.

You can arrange for the council to come and pick it up I think for a fee or drop it at a recycling center

Council charge you to take large items about 60 quid for 3 where i used to live. Pikeys usually advertise crap removal that you pay them 50 quid and then they dump it in a lane instead of hauling it to a waste site and paying professional scrappers rates. Also in the uk you are supposed to be registered to move crap from people to dump to avoid this

Edit: oh if you take it yourself its free.

I've taken stuff to the tip and never been charged. It isn't difficult and I can't imagine there are many people in this country who have neither a car nor a friend to help out.

I been charged for rubble and dry wall. Silly council changes.

I had neither a car big enough or a friend with a car big enough to get rid of me sofa. So i paid a dude with a van to get rid of it.

After years of it being free to dispose of rubbish - because when you charge people dump rubbish - the UK has started to charge to dump rubbish again...

...yeah. Joined-up thinking in our definitely well-educated country.

It doesn't even make real economical sense either; tips make a fortune.

But there is an economic cost to dumping in landfill. Environmental or whatever its got to be paid for. People need to understand that reuse is better than dump. Only way to do that is to make it hurt your wallet.

Once its more expensive to dump a dishwasher than repair it then people will get things fixed again

The main problem with fridges & freezers is that they have to be de gassed, and they now charge for it, that’s why the pikeys don’t have them for scrap, in the same way they take washing machines and dishwashers. So that’s why you have to pay to dump fridges & freezers

In Helsinki thencity organises "problem waste" collection points 2-3 times a year so you can take old broken electronics, fridges, batteries, chemicals etc and they then dispose/recycle the bits

Not really free pay for it through taxes but its nice, imagine its a nightmare to get rid of this stuff if you live in the arse end of nowhere though

Doesn't the UK follow the WEEE Directive? It shouldn't matter about the cost of de gassing, the rule in the EU is supposed to be if it has a plug on it, its on the retailer/manufacturer to take it back at end of life (this doesn't mean they have to physically do it, but the cost of doing it is factored in). In Ireland I don't have to pay for any electrical item to be recycled, and the main problem is people not recycling electrical items (especially small items) enough.

The problem with travellers is they get rid of so much its actually commercial waste, which you have to pay to get rid of. The scam is that they charge someone to clear a site, house, small commercial property (cheaper than a skip) and weigh in anything worth their while then they just dump what's left it in a lay-by to become someone else's problem.

They are laughing all the way to the little cupboard in the caravan.

Some people don't give a shit and never will - which is why we've been through this whole rigamarole before - if you make people pay to dispose of waste (when they already pay through taxes) then people fly tip.

There's been a massive increase in fly tipping in Nottinghamshire since they started making people pay to dispose of things. Quelle surprise! Fucking idiots at the council haven't learned the lessons of the 80's and the countryside is filling up with dumped rubbish again.

So what's happening? The same that happened last times - residents are complaining and the council is on about stepping up police presence, or installing CCTV all over the place (both measures were ineffective last time) - and that comes with it's own costs involved.

So, eventually, they'll understand that they need tips to be free. Again. Because people in the council are so fucking dumb that instead of learning the lessons of the past and remembering why we do things a certain way we have to learn the same lesson every twenty fucking years.

No. They'll throw it away in a verge somewhere along with plasterboard, mattresses, old broken hoovers, bits of table, garden waste, glass....

The fact that "man watches porn" is top of the news today.

Is nothing else going on in the world we should actually give a shit about?

It's MP watches porn at work on parliamentary laptop.

If it was at home, then non-story. But it's massively innapropriate at work (instant sackable offence for the majority of us) and doubly so for an MP.

It's more the fact that he may have consistently lied about having porn on the computer. That's the issue, not the porn.

Yep I did the same, was basically an excuse to buy an axe and go medieval on something to be honest, was very therapeutic.
