On the one hand, yes, he should definitely be censured. On the other, yes its technically mutilation and I don't agree with it on religious/cultural grounds, but the idea that the kid is traumatised is a load of bollocks, and I know this because my son had to get circumcised on medical grounds, and while there was a bit of discomfort, that's not the same as psychological trauma. Once again, people overstating things in the hope of sympathy, and being a cynic, payment.

That's a different issue though. You were saying struck off because of consent issues, I'd suggest struck off because of incompetence. "Half circumcision" is physical damage.

I agree in principle, but you have to be a bit careful about that. The harm from female circumcision is orders of magnitude worse than for males. Its understandable that the law progressed on that first. I do still think it should be illegal for boys, but its a false equivalence to compare it to full FGM.

I understand that it's not exactly equivalent but it's still harm, physical harm. And boys aren't getting the same due care and protection that girls get. I don't think we need to be "careful" about it at all - it's still genital mutilation of a defenceless minor.

Given all the furore we're currently having around "innapropriate sexual conduct" - not even illegal conduct in many cases - the fact that young male babies are having their genitals set upon with scalpels (or, occasionally, cut off by a Rabbi who then sucks the penis "clean"*) and people shrug and go "big deal" boils my piss.
