poorly designed and implemented websites. specifically for the Pathe cinemas in NL. holy fucking shit, they suck.

- when choosing seats, sometimes the site will mess up and you don't get to the payment part. HOWEVER, it will consider the seats you just picked out as sold, so you can't re-choose them.
- at the payment part, the site whines at you to "log in". the added value of an account being that you can preselect your cinema and stuff, but mostly that they can use your data for whatever reason. If you log in after choosing seats and before paying -like they tell you to-, the site loses your booking BUT (see first point) keeps your seats as sold.
- the seat choosing app has some kind of vague algorithm where it will assign seats relative to where you click in the app, not where you actually click.

RAAAH

Pathe websites? Holy shit try the Odeon website, it's utter fucking garbage. It astounds me that in 2015 someone designed a website so utterly shit.

I don't like the Odeon site, but, one thing the last 20 odd years has taught me is that there's usually shit in the background that underpins why a site is the way it is. In the case of Odeon, it looks like they've invested in mobile early (so a separate site rather than responsive) and in apps, which is probably where the bulk of their traffic comes from. All of this will be tied to some wheezing central booking engine that's 20-odd years old and was designed for IVR (this is the problem with most cinema sites), and would cost 100m quid to replace and so it keeps getting upgrades to kick it down the road a few more years.

Now this doesn't forgive some of the weird design choices on the desktop site, but in the scheme of things its probably like the 10th most important thing on the online department's list, and unlike Teeds' example, it does actually work, albeit with a shit user journey.

On the subject of Cinemas there has been talk for three years about a Cineworld coming to where I live and that would have been great. The £18 a month cards are epic value if you have a Cinema close by. Now it looks like Reelz are going to be running it and like Odeon they do not offer any sort of subscription service :(

Not a random annoying thing at all (maybe a brag), but I have a Cineworld about a 20 minute walk from my house and have had an unlimited card for years :D

Oh and I only pay £16.90 ;)

We have a Cineworld in Aldershite now, still not been there though, worried i'll sit next to some scummy chav. I still travel 10 miles up the road to the VUE in Camberley

And if we are talking about web sites, VUE's online booking is fine, never had a problem with it

I had one for 2 years but the closest Cineworld is 50 minutes away in good traffic. That makes just going to watch a random film because I am bored unlikely.

Even DPD? I have only ever had excellent service from them
A lot will depend on the driver, our regular City Link driver does my home town in the morning and then my work in the afternoon and because he knows me anything he can't deliver at home he will drop off at work. Our DPD guy leaves everything in the shed in the back garden so does the Postie. Mum and Dad give them all £10 in a christmas card every year so they are all really helpful. UPS guy is a dickhead though. He left one of two parcels from the same place next door. He said he could not leave the other one next door because the sender said it was not allowed. But he could leave the other one from the same place next door??

Installed Windows 10 on my parents computer. Wow, that's some disgusting backwards-assed layout right there. Eww. Twitter, Store, Skype video, Candy Crush saga. Talk about bloated..

Reason it's free is because it's basically a platform for selling you shit and grabbing your information and selling it.

Didn't get any of that shit on mine.

User error.
I got rid of loads of the preinstalled shit on my Home Premium copy but after an update it has all come back. Windows 7 downgrade coming for me. It is only a media streaming PC after all. My Enterprise copy on the Laptop has none of these issues.

I have just been helping someone do some online shopping and they touched my screen about 20 times I asked them to stop and just tell me what they want and at one point I grabbed their finger. But they still kept touching my screen.

I fucking detest people touching my screen :(

Still no parcel. I caved in and mailed the retailer. I lauded their excellent performance -which is true: despite Christmas they packaged and sent it off on the day I ordered- and contrasted against the courier's. I mean, the online tracker hasn't even been updated since the 24th ffs. In 6 days I could walk to the company, pick up the parcel and walk back, they're that close to me. Tomorrow I'm off to Berlin, so fuck getting my parcel this year

I take it all back @Gwadien. We were all wrong to doubt you.

I've walked from the tram stop to the Cornerhouse past the Royal Centre three times in recent weeks and each time I've had some blind middle class cunt walk into me despite me stopping and saying 'woah' each time. The last one demanded an apology from me for catching her as she tripped. I said 'sorry, next time I'll let you stove your face in on the steps' and stormed off...

One word: Entitled...

"simply explained" articles on the internet from so called experts in their field who leave the reader even more confused

In my book, if you can't explain something in simple language, at least initially, you're a poor communicator.

I'm currently reading a book about quantum wierdness, special relativity, string theory, loop quantum gravity etc and the author explains things so clearly its like lifting a veil off the whole of modern physics. Such a brilliant book. He uses ordinary everyday macroscopic objects to explain the most unintuitive and complex subjects in a way even your mother would understand, yet with enough detail to satisfy physics pedants.
