Kwik-Fit. My exhaust went while I was driving down to London on sunday, got the car to the nearest kwik-fit, which was Newport Pagnell. They don't keep anything in apart from tyres, and no suppliers are open on sundays, which makes me wonder why they bother opening at all, but thanks to a mess-up with my breakdown cover, I had to leave it with them and get a train home, so they could get the exhaust in the next day. Got a phone call monday lunchtime, the exhaust won't be in until wednesday... apparently the bloke who I spoke to on sunday was wrong to say it would definitely 100% be in on monday... So today, I get another call. The delivery van has broken down... so it's going to be tomorrow. Nothing quick about kwik-fit it seems...

My company car scheme has delegated tyre replacement to Kwik-Fit - honestly what a shower of useless cunts they are. I went in on Monday for four new tyres, was told they had none but would be there Tuesday latest, so I said "tell you what, just for leeway, I'll come in Wednesday afternoon", got there on Wednesday and still no tyres. Like yourself, I got the "problem with the supplier" chat because they don't actually stock most fucking tyres!

Italian and Spanish tourists. Please stay in bed until everyone has got to work. You can wander around in front of the trams and clog up the coffee shops with your jibber-jabber while we're at our desks. Thank you.

Parking tickets.

Or rather, incorrectly distributed parking tickets.

Got a letter yesterday from 'Parking Eye' claiming that I'd been parked in my local hospital for 3 hours. In reality I was there twice, once at 23:30 to drop my sister off who was in labour. Then again at 02:20 after she'd been discharged, came home and almost had the kid popping out in the car. But this piece of shit automated parking ticket distributing bag of arse seems to think I've been parked in the drop off bay all this time.

Obviously there's no way to speak to someone to appeal, it has to be done in writing. Good news though, the girlfriends mam works for the NHS so has a number to call them directly, huzzah! Looking forward to that tonight.
Private parking companies really are shit. Stuff goi g through the courts now to try and show they aren't legit. Crikey yor sister didn't hang about with the wee un.

Yeah, this @Billargh, my mum got a ticket from Aldi with the same firm, I told her not to worry about it.

You can write to them if you want, but in reality, they can't force you to pay up.

Hah you're not wrong, she had the bairn within 15 minutes of arriving the second time.

Aye I've appealed on their website, made it perfectly clear that there is no chance in Hell I'll be paying these fuckers though.

it looks pale blue and gold to me

You ... You! Don't get me started on this again!

Though the science of why at least 70% of people see white/gold and the rest blue/black is rather interesting.

Yep smashing up loads of 5-6000 year old Assyrian statues as they represented false gods or some such shit.

It's like the fucking dark ages, seriously depressing that people still follow this

Ok, I don't get this, are we saying that some people are seeing it as black and blue and others (like me) are seeing it gold and white/pale blue?

I know the dress is actually black and blue, but we are basing this on the actual picture that has been posted, are we not?

Here is the original pic that was posted on Tumblr

Yes some people see that picture you posted as blue and black and others gold and white.

weird, it makes you wonder what else we see that we take for granted as a certain colour that others see different

Well fuck. I've been seeing it as white/gold all day and its suddenly changed colour. Stupid easily-deceived brain.

I would rather we discussed the shoes that would go with the dress.

You seem to have forgotten you should only pretend, not actually like shoes...

But obviously a pair of Louboutin pumps would suit it nicely

I always thought it was white and gold, the blue comes from the poor lightning. Could ofc also be a light blue and gold.
BBC article say that the manufacturer say's its black and blue, but i don't see a speck of black in there

Incorrect white balance and poor exposure will obviously make something look totally and utterly different.

The amount of attention this received and the priority it got (e.g. front page news) make me realise that the "comet into the earth" solution cannot come soon enough.

It's just one of those flash-in-the-pan "trending" (*cringe*) bandwagons that everybody and his dog (inc. media outlets) feel like they have to jump on. Thankfully it's over now.

That's not what it was about though was it? It was about the fact that two people, looking at the same picture, saw different colours, even when looking at the same screen in the same room (it turns out about two-thirds one third in favour of white/gold). It may have been trivial but it was actually interesting as a lot of people think colours are absolute values, when they absolutely aren't from a human POV.

You've missed my point.

The colour of a dress was being discussed ad nauseum across the globe when:

- we've no idea what the white balance of the camera was set at (in Kelvin)
- we've no idea how accurate the exposure was (e.g. cameras with an abundance of white will underexpose thus need exposure compensation)
- the colours will vary massively depending on which screen it's viewed on given the huge variance of screen output

Depending on which version I was looking at, the colours were different.

I loaded the dress into photoshop and fixed the original which is a) woefully overexposed b) has white balance all over the place due to tungsten lighting (as you would expect indoors) and look what happened:

dress_fixed.jpg

The blue looks off-white or "pale lilac" in the original due to being about 2 stops overexposed and the black looks gold for the same reasons. The black would have looked grey under white light, but the tungsten light has given it a gold appearance. The interpretation from "same screen" situations will be to do with how they interpreted it as accurately, or over exposed.
