So on a downer my current head wrote me a crap reference so I can't get a job at another school. Is that allowed?

No I don't think it is allowed. They can say the minimum such as: "You worked there as a teacher from x time to y. The End"
Tell your current head you intend to have a word with the Teachers Union...

As far as I recall they're not allowed to say bad things. They can refuse to give a reference (or just say you worked there and give a very minimal answer) but they can't say anything negative. Sort of "say something nice or don't say anything at all", that's what my old HR boss used to tell me, anyway.

I take it no one claiming rear wheel drive is terrible in snow have been to Bavaria in winter then? The locals seem to manage fine getting up all sorts of hills, because THEY PUT THE RIGHT FUCKING TYRES ON THEM. Of course rear wheel drive is going to be terrible on snow if you've got tarmac roller summer tyres cladding 57 inch wheels, but then so is any way of driving. Come October in Germany, everyone gets their winter wheels and tyres out and carry on as before.

The only reason we get stuck is snow is so comparatively rare over here, is its not really worth changing tyres for the 3 days a year you might need them. Would I put up with a shopping trolley front driver for the other 362? Not a fucking chance.
Yes, because front wheel drive cars and shopping trolleys are SO alike. There can be two completely different systems that can still work you know? Take the combustion engine, be it petrol, diesel, 4 stroke, 2 stroke, rotary... they all do the job, sometimes slightly more specialised in some circumstances, but in general, they work. Yes. you like rear wheel drive. Yes, you can afford one of the few modern cars to offer it. SO WHAT? All I can afford is a 17 year old front wheel drive Mazda at the moment, but you know what, it gets me around, does all I need of it, and it's actually quite fun to drive on top. Certainly doesn't appear flawed in its handling, well, apart from accelerating up steep hills, but that's more down to a lack of engine power than the drive wheels...
Anyway, point is just because something's a different system to what you like, doesn't make it shite. Some things are just different, and in 99% of the situations most of us are likely to encounter here, will do just as good. It's fine to like rear wheel drive cars, it's not fine to be a dick about everyone else's.

I spend 15 minutes a day in a car.

I don't really care much for what car it is.

I don't think I was necessarily belittling people who do like front wheel drive cars, I mean, some people like Celebrity Big Brother, takes all sorts really. However as much as I don't want to watch 12 barely famous people stuck in a house, I also have no intention of driving a front wheel drive car. Works for some people - but not for me. Being able to afford it isn't really a consideration either, as my first rear wheel drive car cost me about 800 quid 4 years ago. So no need to get grit in your anus about me liking rear wheel drive.

Oh and front wheel drive and shopping trolleys are very much alike. Loads of them in Tesco car park, great for filling with shopping, yet don't go round corners very well.

Son's Hotmail account getting hacked followed by his FIFA 15 account. Lost 5 mill coins value, not much but still upsetting for the lil lad. Reset the Hotmail password and was hacked again this morning at 4 am from someone in San Jose area. Changed again and limited security check to SMS code to my mobile, see if that stops them :(

Comparisons to shopping trolleys are definitely not complementary. And as for saying they can't corner? I beg to differ. My Mazda takes corners extremely well, and that doesn't even have any driver aids or anything. In fact, I can honestly say that I've yet to drive a FWD car that struggles with corners, well, apart from maybe my dad's old Saab, but that was just poor handling all round really. Like I said before, it's fine to prefer RWD, but stop the insults about FWD. You don't like it, that's fine. Saying it's shite just because you prefer a different system, not fine. If it really was as bad as a shopping trolley, nobody would make a FWD car, let alone the majority make them, and nobody would buy them.

When I was teaching it was standard. Either that or they wrote a good one and then slagged you off over the phone.

That's nice. Front wheel drive is still terrible however.

Driven the previous model, it was good fun despite it's shopping trolleyness.

I can guarantee you that the new model has a chassis so sorted that it'll embarrass a lot of rear wheel drive material.

Not the first time I've heard great things about the new Cooper S, so definitely keen to try one. It doesn't have that silly "Maximum Go Kart Feel" message on the dash though does it?

I won't deny that perfectly well sorted front wheel drive cars exist (the Mini, Integra Type R, Golf GTI), just like there are some terrible rear wheel drive cars out there (Morris Marina, older muscle cars). But if the choice came down to it, I would go for a well sorted rear driver every time - the weight transfer gives better grip under power, and torque steer is never an issue, ever. Much more fun on empty private car parks too :)

When you're asked to clean and you're then told you didn't clean well enough.

Then do it the f*ck yourself.

You should mate, I was aghast when I drove it (had one for a few days whilst my 1'er was in for repair) - the front end grip and turn-in was just devine; a properly sorted chassis. I fucking love it, put a massive smile on my face. Evo have a video over here (ignore the colours and the shitty 5 door look, fucking ugly car):

Twin scroll turbo BMW power plant and a sweet chassis, what's not to love!

Agree on the weight shift, perfect for off the line as demonstrated here (although less convinced once moving):

Deffo going to look at one when the time comes to get the OH a proper car - she's just building confidence in the Clio, then we'll get her something proper. She has however noticed that a 60bhp Clio doesn't move in the same way as a 125i, so all very promising.

Oh and kudos for being one of the few remaining petrolheads on the internet who doesn't have a Golf R. God those things are dull....fucking quick, but dull. Would be the M135i and the face only a mother could love for me (although the facelift looks much better).

I used to love the original minis. Stuck to the road like shit on a shovel.

Fwd cars with soft suspension are rubbish and nose into the corners etc. but with the right setup it's fine. I like rwd cause it's nice with the back stepping out to recover it. But I have had fwd and rwd cars that corner fine.

As for a shopping trolley. Surely you push them from the back so if anything they are rear wheel drive lol

The wee brother told me it's actually the laptop itself - ASUS laptop, if you go on the edge of the touchpad then it starts opening stuff.

Like

Seriously.

Call me old fashioned but I like my touchpads to have distinct clicky buttons and a touchpad which is a touchpad.

I've also had my Hotmail account hacked in the past. It's why I've started switching all my stuff over to my gmail account.
