The paper is titled 'Cold acclimation induces physiological cardiac hypertrophy and increases assimilation of triacylglycerol metabolism through lipoprotein lipase'

I wasnt interested in the second part but the first part is the enlargement of the heart that I mentioned - cardiac hypertrophy.

If you read through it you can also find the stuff about pressure in the arteries around the heart - they just acclimated a bunch of rats to the cold and dissected them to see what changes it made.

Even short term exposure can have nasty consequences - tons of people have heart attacks shovelling snow and the cold exposure is a part of that.

No doubt theres an element of that - if you dont have a nice lightweight snow shovel its pretty serious exercise but the cold means your hearts working harder to begin with trying to keep the body warm.
