When in the video do they specifically say that the keys were discovered?

More to the point, I don't see anything pointing at a practical demonstration yet. Are these guys going to be running a demo of their method in action?

This is beyond wide open now, they are into the heart of the system and from there the last remaining security checks can be taken out. Fully expect a boot DVD within six months that totally bypasses security, even if that doesn't happen booting the exploit over the network is going to be completely doable and from there you can run any code including homebrew or games.

A PS3 as a server ? Not being funny but that's just asking for a YLOD. They aren't robust enough to do anything useful.

It should also mean you'll be able to download PS3 disc images, and either patch them yourself or come pre-patched that will run nps bypassing security, ie no mod chip necessary piracy.

It won't withstand a FLAC to PCM transcode, or am I missing something....? Seems like my missus' shitty netbook can do that without breaking a sweat so I don't see how a PS3 couldn't achieve it?

Running games or encoding video 24/7 is a massive issue definately, running the console constantly with lots of idling thrown in won't do it any harm at all though. The biggest heat source in PS3 is the GPU and the encodes won't be using that anyway, with the GPU almost at idle the PS3 should cope just fine with the thermal output from CELL over prolonged periods as long as it gets occasional breaks to allow the heat to dissapate.

Yeah they did some work on it early on iirc and then some of the stuff getting linux up after the jtag hack.

What that means is, even sooner than expected there will be publicly released software to let you download and play any PS3 .iso

It also means people will be able to release homebrew software and games for the PS3.

Custom firmwares are now out, as soon as homebrew and bootloader authors get thier apps signed it will be a free-for-all buffet.

one of the good things to come out of all of this is that it might drive game prices down.

sony have got no one to blame but themselves for this fuckup lesson learned fix it for the ps4 release (whenever that happens)

ofc now the master key has been found they cannot use it on any games for the ps4 which also means you wont be able to run any ps3 games on it so no backwards compatibility.

wish i was a fly on the wall at sony HQ bet there are some serious head rolling sessions going on.
