http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=60 - Better blood
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=141 - Better trees and plants
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863 - Better UI
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3863 - Craftable thief armour
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4974 - Craftable shrouded armour
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=1010 - Craftable arrows
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5696 - Craftable nightingale armour + updated look
http://skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6032 - Basement for every house
http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=17 - Not a mod. A save game at character creation.

Few more that I can't remember!

All seem to work well, though I do have a pretty top end machine. They are all basically cosmetic, though it could be argued that crafted arrows and armour and the house upgrade are cheats but having played it for 100+ hours and started a new character I can live with that :)

I have the HD textures. and it's pretty great. I also have all the better* things, and the LBG mod for allowing more than 3.2GB of ram usage (even though it never seems to do so anyways)

Yeah I saw that, will give it a bash tomorrow.

Regarding the memory mod, as far as I know the latest patch enables up to 4gig now anyway.

First mod I installed was Deadly Dragons with everything applied on hardcore. That means not only can almost any dragon 1 shot me as I get too close but also creatures (especially boss creatures like bandit chiefs and wisp matriarchs) dishing out some _serious_ damage. (1~2 shots :p)

I play as a pure 2h build so the games been brutal to me. Got the difficulty ramped up to the highest level as well.

This is of course after a playtrough of a pure destruction build mage with 120 hours. Felt skyrim was too easy. Might be a bit too hard now :)

Other mods like those mentioned above I've also got Legendary Smithing Upgrades and a lot of armor mods. Oh and I use the FF7 Crisis Core buster sword as my main weapon with an Arnold Schwarzenegger save.

Also: Best mod ever? http://www.skyrimnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=5626 - Thuumic. Let's you shout using your mic rather then using keys, it really immerses you into the game.

Btw for the best experience with above mod: player.setav shoutrecoverymult 0 and shout to your hearts content. (It's semi-overpowering if you let it be with spells like Fire/Frost 3, but not with the mods I installed since it barely scratches their life.)

That sounds absolutely awesome. Whatever will my wife think though? :)

Also, for those running the various HD* texture mods or RWT etc - does it really make that much of a difference visually when you're playing the game? I agree the look nice when you see the screenshots side-by-side, but is it noticeable when playing? Also, do you need a top-end graphics card to make use of them? Just wondering in my aging Nvidia GTX 280 would manage ok.

I'm always a little wary of mods, particularly as I'm still on my first play through. I almost feel like I want to play it the way it was intended.

Darn, that's cute. Alll they need now is a Care Bear mod. I'd love to have the pelt of 'Cheer Bear' stretched-out on my tanning rack.

I'm always a little wary of mods, particularly as I'm still on my first play through. I almost feel like I want to play it the way it was intended.

I did my first playtrough unmodded (then again I rushed trough the main quest and barely did any sidequests, I always do this with TES so I can enjoy the open-world roaming a lot more without wondering what's going to happen or change if I finish the main quest, somehow still ended up clocking 120+ hours :p)

Now I started a new game (with mods) and I'm not touching the main quest at all apart from random dragons appearing (3rd quest or so after prologue, takes like 30 mins to get there) and leave it at that. I have to say, with a high end PC, the texture stuff is really noticeable. Stuff like improved mountain textures and floor textures and especially dungeon/NPC textures made a huge difference for me graphic wise.

Especially NPC polygon increasing/smoothening/sharpening mods are well worth it. I find that doing sidequests with those addons immerse me a lot more as the voice-acting is really good (bar some recycled RL voices for different situations) but the original NPCs didn't do it enough justice. What with the going overboard with dirt on every NPC and all, it's a lot different now.

And I don't know what your wife will think of Thuumic other then perhaps incorporating dragonspeak into your relationship? :p

How do you get to the skyrim workshop in Steam? Haven't seen any noticeable links yet.

To be honest, easier is to get http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/content/modmanager/ and use that.

You can download directly from nexus pages and just doubleclick mods to activate them. No hassle.

http://skse.silverlock.org/ is the first i put in(lot of mdos use it, use "install from file" in NMM after manual download) and then i just add mod by mod with the "download with manager" button in nexus.

disclaimer; always read readmes etc from mod descriptions so you know if there's some known issues etc and know if you need to do something extra.

Click on Skyrim in your steam library there is then a big fat button for "Workshop"

If you've got Steam installed Toht it's not easier to use something else as everything is integrated into the client and should (in theory) sort itself out if you start playing on something else. As good as it is, Mod Manager won't follow you across computers.

ACross computers maybe, but with anything else, the mod manager is even simpler then the steam interface.

Also the mod manager, i'm betting, will handle stuff and sort stuff better.

Cheers, I shall look for this "big fat button" :) I just thought maybe it was only open to those on a Steam beta or something.

Having tried both Toht I completely disagree.

Steam is "click" and "oh look, it's done" so unless I missed the "mind reading" setting in Mod Manger then they are equally simple to use.

Same is with mod manager, click and done, but i still believe it will update/handle mods better. And that includes any mod in nexus. Not to mention, mod manager considers script extenders etc, not sure if the steam thing does.

But it doesn't matter, whatever works for people works :p

Some mdos do require additional things like script extender, so those might need mod manager.

what is this steam thing you speak of? My Slyrim had a rather large update last night, but I didn't see anything new. In fact, it crashed several times through the final Mages Guild quest :-/

what do I do to try that stuff out? I'm rather intrigued by the whole spear fighting thing...

Whats the official HD texture pack like? I found the one I got of the nexus would make me crash at level 6 for some odd reason. Fine at level 5 though!

I don't know. Couldn't find it when I had a real quick look just now. I did snag better light / better night and more trees. Seems to work, the caves are hella dark now, forcing me to use magelight and stuff -for the first time-.

Because it is official it is classed as DLC. Goto Steam - Library - Skyrim - Click "DLC" on the right, then Install.
