Hi guys, need to pick some brains.

I'm wanting to play some (perfectly legal) MPG files through my TV in the near future. Currently I use an XBOX to play my DVDs on an old tele (upgrading that this weekend I hope), modding it isn't an option because I'm lazy / incompetant.

I could link my old laptop to the tv but it looks shitty.

As far as I can tell I either want to get a DVD player that will play any format of file or buy a DivX player and convert the files on my computer.

What is the best way of doing this please? My budget is £50 tops for buying stuff.

TIA,

Ben.

Any dvd player will play mpeg's. On a very rare occasion you'll have to convert it to a VCD.

If you're wanting to play AVI's and other DivX files then you'll need a DVD player that plays Divx files. I don't think the one you linked to will do the job.

Ah ok, so if it's a DVD player with DivX it should cover most things.

Thanks for your help.

Is that an XBox or an XBox 360? If the latter you can stream video (WMV, or H.264) over the network from a PC (perhaps only Vista, not sure) or Mac (using Connect 360).

I was going to suggest that but taB did say.. "modding it isn't an option because I'm lazy / incompetant"

It's an original Xbox running atm on an av cable into a very old TV

Yaka - Sorry I can't be arsed, played KOTR (&2) on my Xbox but tbh not used it otherwise, I do not want to / can't be arsed to mod it. I'd rather spend, as I said, up to £50 for an easy solution.

My PC is nowhere near my TV from a cable point of view, they need to be seperate.

Cheers,

Ben.

For under £50 there are people that will install a chip for you. I won't link to anyone here though.

seriously, youll spend mabe 1 hour soft modding it, ftp over xbmc and set it up as a dashboard, its not hard, all it requires is you reading some tutrials, it will do more than just play dvds

Cheers Yaka, just not my bag, I don't even know where my controller for it is. I don't have live or any of that jazz. May get a 360 in a years time, no rush though.
