how dumbed down is this game?!?! not impressed so far. seems very easy mode for want of a better phrase.

no fear of dying regardless of how many mobs ive thrown myself at so far. 1 spell when you level up?!?, and what is it, 5 or 6 skills in your "quickbar" tops.

what I liked about the ad&d world was the choices it gave you as a character, at the moment I'm not really getting any of that from this game.

I've played a bit of Guardian Fighter and a lot of Trickster Thief. I thought the guardian had a tricky mechanic (block) which means you can stand against massive attacks, but I think you'll need regen gear to be this class. The thief is so insanely quick to kill things that most of the time you don't take big damage.

Strangely, this game occasionally nails the old AD&D game atmosphere. I don't mean the hot-join dungeon smashes. Ignore those. Some of the missions like the actual Cloak Tower mission (not the hot-join version) is really atmospheric.

The thing I'd look for in this game is the storytelling. I think the foundry is a real boon and what I would love to see is;

Player made stories - not dungeon speed-runs, where players take their time to read the lore, understand the plot instead of following a sparkly trail. So I'd probably want to play with people I already know on voice (there is built in voice in the game - the first thing I heard was an eastern european saying, "fuck you fuck you". Which was a nice initiation to that).

I wouldn't recommend this to people looking for action oriented smash-em-up, they'd finish it too quickly.

I think the foundry is a real boon and what I would love to see is;

Word of warning, the stuff that will be made in the foundry will have no rewards what so ever, not even an XP reward upon completion. Maybe XP from kills, but as that can be abused it will likely be heavily reduced to prevent "farms".

In STO the only thing most people use it for is to make or play "missions" that helps you do the dailies as fast as possible.

Sure there are some proper good stuff on there as well but because you're getting nothing out of it other then the (hopefully) good story most people just don't bother with them.

So imo the foundry is a waste of time after the "ooooh, aaaah" sensation are gone..

You say it as if that is bad thing. I suspect that there'll be a some really good stories.

Oh there will be i guarantee it, STO has some really ACE stuff in the foundry mission list. But because there isn't any rewards given when you do them, there aren't a whole lot of players that gives a damn.

It's just wasted potential if you ask me...

In STO Cryptic only lifts forward the really good player created missions on the front page but they refuse to make them "worth" playing for the masses.

They could easily have taken those missions and patched them in to the game proper and given them a decent reward.

That way the creator would get long standing recognition. And the players would get a LOT more awesome missions to play through because more people would want to create actual good stuff..

But as it is now only a handful of people will care about making any, or play it. And that's depressing...

The foundry has unimaginable potential but Cryptic refuse to turn it in to reality.

Possibly because it would risk making their own content look uninspired.

Personally i don't have a problem playing through the good foundry missions and not getting any rewards from them. But i have no reason to play them more then once. And sooner or later those great missions will be buried and forgotten because something else (like those retarded cheat missions that only helps with rushing the dailies) got higher votes.

When I played this in closed beta 3, it seemed really solid (aside from the odd typo).

Cryptic and Perfect World are throwing open Neverwinter's beta doors on April 30th. A joint press release states that there will no character wipes or play restrictions after the open beta period begins.

If you can't wait until the end of the month to get your free-to-play Forgotten Realms MMO fix, you can become a Neverwinter Founder and take part in the 60-hour Beta Weekend 4 that starts on April 12th. Founders will get first crack at the game's profession system and may opt to pursue leatherworking, platesmithing, mailsmithing, or leadership.

The 'Relics' mission in the STO Foundry is better written than just about every Cryptic mission/quest/episode I've seen so far.

You do get a reward though for playing spotlighted missions, if you do one per day. Decent amount of Dilithium as a reward. Well I thought it was decent. Maybe hardened dil farmers think differently :)

Oh yeah, right Dilithium...

The most pointless and infuriatingly retarded currency ever invented.

The sole purpose of that shit was to make you buy C-points instead (zen now)...

Ran two foundry missions yesterday, got xp and drops. Sure no xp from finishing it, but the xp from killing the mobs was nice, and you got the daily astral mish.

The game has been fine ffs until all the freebie players came on, been running around all weekend no problems, but as I'm a founder i get pushed to the front of any queue if the servers are working :(

Nah... it's installed and ready to play. But launching the game just gives a 404 web page.

Meh. Not great first impressions :)

Patched before I went to work. Home from work just before midnight. Won't connect to account server. I can live with this. Might try again. Meanwhile, there's a patch update for GW2 today, I'll go check that out.

I was tempted to buy a founder pack but in the second closed beta I realised the interface was a turd (all the worst bits from Star Trek Online ground combat compounded into a console-style mess). Might still buy if I can customize the interface into something useful. This is a game I want to like.

Not impressed with the queue handling. The 'queue' number is bouncing around between around 2k and 100k so much that it is meaningless as a means to predict how long you will queue for.

However, its beta. It may improve.

its very moveable, the UI, rather like WAR was, lots of green boxes you can drag around and resize etc

Its not the placement and sizing so much as the keybindings and mouselook stuff. It was proper unwieldy. For combat it was ok (and there's some nice touches to combat I like). For the rest of the things you do in an MMO it was driving me mental. Clunky as hell.

i hadnt played it in about a month and a half, and its improved immeasurably, not saying its perfect for what you want, but poke it vigorously before dismissing it ;)

Well i'm in and playing a cleric on Dragon. Seems like a fairly decent start to the character progression. Went in blind and did fairly well, will put up some vids later on....
