Does anyone use Netflix? Is it any good? Can I search for films/TV and do they have a lot on there?

They're doing a free trial but I don't see the point. Didn't seem much choice and I get my movies elsewhere.

I just had a look at their site. The selection of films is pathetic, compared to what good torrent sites offer.

£6 a month sounds good, but not until they actually have something worth watching.

I would subscribe to a service which allows me to download the content to my house (and it can be protected by DRM) to allow me a watch twice before being deleted. Obviously it has to be in HD. Basically Steam but for films.

Gah, I had high hopes for it too given that Lovefilm was AIDS for content and quality. PLaystation movie store has good quality HD content, but not that up to date and few exclusives.

What I'd give for a high quality 1080p movie service with a big selection and up to date releases.

Oh wait, it's called illegal torrent downloads r us :(

Thing is Steam have the tech to do it. Their DRM is ok(ish) and works. It should satisfy the Mafiaa.

I'm subscribed to netflix and have been for about a year and a half.

While the whole separation of services and name change thing pissed me off I am still happy overall with the service.

The availability of things to stream instantly....while still not as all inclusive as I'd like it to be has come on leaps and bounds since I joined and has a lot of good tv shows on there as well as movies.

In answer to your question Raven yes you can search and yeah I think they have a ton but it's not up to speed with their post service yet.

If you really wanted to try it out I'd probably let you have a whack at mine as long as you don't take the piss!

It's like being asked to visit a newly-opened shop, finding that they sell fuck all, and then being asked to return a few weeks later. Netflix should have launched with tens of thousands of films, not a couple of hundred.

Right now I can go onto Immortalseed and download any one of hundreds of 1080p films, in less time than it takes to watch it. Sorry legal sites, but your product is just wank.

And sadly that's how shops began, you think Tesco sold all the shit they sell now when the first ever one opened?

They probably have a budget and want to see how many subscribers they get before they push the boat out and go nuts..

The internet is not Tesco.

Netflix is also not a new company.

BTW UK content is limited and if you change the server to the US one you get all the shit you can't get here.

No shit but they are pretty much new over here, they have budgets etc.. they won't want to invest millions of pounds if they just flop and have to suspend the UK service within months.

It seems they have to actually agree new deals with each network for the UK version..

Trying it for the free month, but seriously doubt I'll continue with it.

I wasn't expecting the latest and greatest, but I was hoping for a decent selection of older titles. Maybe it'll improve over time, but sadly my first impression is poor enough that it'll take a hell of a lot of new stuff for me to consider it again.

To be honest when I originally signed up I didn't have the instant in mind at all. I got it because where else can I get the directors cut of the seventh seal (not sure if there is one) or things like that?

i'm using the free trial at the moment, there isnt much choice on the site tbh (you could easily watch everything worth watching with the 1 month free trial) until they add more stuff I doubt i'd even consider paying £5 a month for it.

Would it be feasible to cancel Sky Movies from my Sky package and use this instead?

(to be honest I hardly ever use Sky Movies, no time)

Sky Movies is a waste of money to be honest, me and the wife had it awhile back and after about 2 weeks we found it was just repeat after repeat after repeat and it was costing alot given the shit that was on so we binned it. I wouldnt waste money on this site tho, not until they start adding more material.

iTunes? / Blinkbox

Movie channels are awful as you don't get to choose.

Got 6 months of Lovefilm for £20 in black friday and have been chunking through loads of films I didn't watch before. Plus you get a selection that can be viewed online. Given that you can keep getting codes I'd go lovefilm > netflix for now.

Doing the 30 day trial at the moment, very disappointing selection. No classics like Goodfellas, Casino, Breakfast Club or many others. Just isn't worth the fee with so little to choose from.

Using Lovefilm on my PS3...found 2 films worth watching in a month. Will fuck it off I think.

Used them both, frankly streaming isn't gonna happen anytime soon at this rate. iPlayer generally has superior content to both services.

Satellite / Cable has far too good a selection by comparison and there are no alternatives.

Even with something that has the content like iTunes the price comparison is ridiculous if you said for arguments sake that you spent £500 a year on your TV (licence & satellite) if you spent that same amount on iTunes you'd get like, 11 maybe 12 series to watch the whole year?

Personally I think Virgin / Sky only need to up there game slightly to win this outright. I know virgin does on demand but used to be expensive crap. I know if I had the option on sky to pay an extra £5 a month to get on demand access to say all the shows on Sky Atlantic I'd be interested.
