Quite easily, I'd imagine. Couple of grand on appliances, couple of grand on fancy counter-tops, couple of grand on a floor, probably £5+k on bespoke handmade units and whatever. Um, you can spend stupid amounts of money on fittings (taps, cupboard handles etc). Ok, that's my Grand Designs knowledge exhausted.

Yep. But why?

My sister's house is gorgeous. Because of this she's over protective of her things...

Granite or Corian for an average sized kitchen is going to cost ~£5k, Amtico flooring for the same ~£1200.

That's a good £6k and you've not even touched the kitchen really.

I have no idea but to each their own. Maybe @Moriath has put aside another £100k to do that world tour you mentioned in absolute luxury and not just relative luxury. :)

Maybe he has his super-expensive world tour to thank for that.

(he probably doesn't but maybe he does :) )

My brother in law just spent 40k GBP doing his, but that included some serious structural repairs on the foundation flooring due to rising damp. Also had underfloor heating installed. Bloody nice job but took 5 months! He lives in Oxford as a senior research scientist and can afford it.

Really liked the smart glass type hob and combi ovens they had AEG if I remember rightly.

I have a condition where I really don't like the unknown. And travelling is a lot of unknown. Therefore a lot of anxiety and feeling shit. I have no desire to travel further than Europe. And I have been to most countries in Europe through work.

It's easy to spend 20k on a kitchen. Took me about 90mins in the planners. Lol. Couple grand for work tops. Oak cabinets and doors. Appliances a couple grand. Fitting five or so with project management. Glass splash backs and a lot of floor tiling. Sink and taps was over five hundred quid on it own.

Cause my house is where I spend most of my time because of aforementioned issues. And I want it to be nice. I spent sixteen grand on a conservatory four years ago. And two grand on decking, pergola and other stuff three months ago.

When you don't go out and socialise it's amazing how much money you save.

I do love a well looked after house. A mate of mine has such; his wife has a full time job looking after it, but they both love it and it's very very nice indeed. My house looks like a cross between a man-cave and a bicycle workshop lol.

I was only winding Scouse up because he couldn't wrap his head around somebody wanting something different from him. And none of us have any idea of your financial situation. :)

That's fair enough then :)

A decent kitchen is one of the few areas me and the missus are in complete agreement about in regards to all these houses we're looking at; even to the extent of factoring in a new one into the price if it isn't what we want. I'm actually pretty relaxed about most other house-related decisions, but this time I want a good kitchen.

So they can boast about it on Facebook because they're an utter fucking dullard? Who knows :).

Was in IKEA on Saturday... Is it sad that I'm already planning finances to buy a new kitchen for that exact reason?

@Moriath - GOOD IDEA :drink:

I am the same your house is your biggest purchase. I was about 2 weeks away from the perfect little bungalow. Not been decorated in 30 years and it was a shell. A complete blank canvas in a area where a nice Bungalow is worth about £60k more. It would have been a great place to spend 10 years sorting out and making a profit.

Don't get me wrong, a modern kitchen is brilliant, and I hate houses with old 80s kitchens still, but 20 grand seems excessive, but that's just me :)

Includes the cost of all the trades etc required to fit it as well. They don't come cheap down south
