Chaining, yes it was boring etc, but was good to meet people.
Also miss the gank rvr groups of SI, back when Duryn was in Strife, or later on when I played druid for IG. Was nothing better than some good hard 1vs1 fights.

think in beta maybe for a very very short time in US there might have been the option to make one.

The time when everyone were noobs :<

Yep, it was fun back then and it was nice to meet people you ended up being friends with for 3 years. I'll never forget the excitement of those few weeks of beta and first few weeks of retail when everything seem so huge and overwhelming, when your first level 50 was a far off dream and nobody really knew what an opted group was so everyone was welcome.

the days when i when i played my first fluffybunny (light eld) was only 2 other light elds back then and those found it so boring they never got passed 20.....i was first ever on exc server to get to 50 and remember the exp days when ppl only knew about void and mana specs, when i said i was light there was always a long silence and then i always got a reply with something like....what can they do? :)

I miss the times when casters (and tanks but mainly casters) didn't 2 shot everything that moved and when fights lasted for more than 10 secs max.
Also miss the times when if you went to Emain (or Odins or Hadrians) you saw all kind of con people, green, blue, yellow, orange, red etc and not just knowing everyone you'll meet was level 50 (was before the BG's got released).
And of course the groups that didn't require people to wait or not get one since nobody was fotm back then and there was no such thing as an op'ted group so you grabbed 7 people standing near you and went out to fight (eventhough that sometimes ment you walked with very weird group setups :)).

Was thinking about this again last night...

The days when glowies were a status symbol...
And the awe ppl around you felt when you had mutliple glowies and would switch them over for fun...

Damn, those were simpler times...

I miss friends I made when leaving my 1st char Soulsdoorway, most have switched realms/servers or completely stopped playing the game, maybe its the sad reason why I solo everything in the game now, theres no social side to leveling in DAoC now days. :<

Seems that quite a few people miss things that could still happen if the players made them happen. You don't have to PL to 50.

Well, people will always try to be reasonably effective when doing anything. It just took some time to find the best way to gain experience in daoc, when the formula was found noone wanted to go back to a less effective way.

Its up to the game developers to make the mechanics reward certain types of gameplay, and ideally such gameplay that fosters diversity and community - i.e. they could f.ex. give an exp bonus to grps that contained different classes.
Say a grp got 10% extra exp for each different class in it. That would give an incentive to form diverse grps, that could not pl in the sense we use the word now, but would still level fast and thus be an alternative to sticking a bot to your ass or going to a pbae/shroom pl grp. And it would give all classes a chanse to get in any grp, and still be viable.

i also miss all this old stuff everyone else has said. discovering new places, seeing a glowy sword for the first time, but if i think back i just cant help but wonder how boring it would be now. The game would have been played and replayed through and through. There would be nothing left to discover, however, whatever you lot say, i think the game needed si/toa/nf. although i dont like what toa has done to the economy and casual players (i only have 3 arti's in my temp) i personaly cant wait until catacombs comes out.

Im going to add another thing....

Gna Faste, drove past the other day on my skald... all the famous crafters like Indra, Plaguey and even Ruathan hugging the forge for warmpth. XP groups shouting for members to head off into Askheim, Skona Ravine and Malmohus. People at level 23 queueing up to gank Njesse as she swam past DoTing lowbies who didnt watch for her wake. Making level 10 exp groups to go kill the mighty tinglers and watching the heroic high levelers gather to hunt in Spind for those illusive glowies.

Yggdra forest mainly, logging in and clicking the find group button and seeing 4+ groups killing crabs/perphidious (SP?) pook's on atla beach Nisse's \o/ just everything when it was all new and unexplored.

Having the ability to wear chain armour but only being able to afford mixed chain/studded/leather (all died different collors ofc!) /sigh being a newb was such fun :D

That shiver of excitement you got when the daoc music first loaded up...

Double auto pulls at gobbos in Lyonesse rather than soloing them as a cabby with leeches^^

Being able to go into Diogel in SI and get anything made for you.

Rigante tank assist RvR groups in HW - beating full opted groups when we had all kinds of gimps in our group ;)
