Hehe this person setup their own country on an Oil Rig. It's called Sealand
Sealand For Sale MaisonBisson.com

If you can be arsed, I am sure you can find a better site about this :p

I would like to know the answer to your question as well, if no one owns it, who's to say you cant open a <random shop> etc?

I think to make it a country they've made it much more difficult?

It's possible to make your own country. With laws etc etc.

Keeping it is another thing, what with a couple of big armies out there.

There are shitloads of islands available around the place.

Islands for Sale, Private Islands, Luxury Real Estate

Most however, will be under the laws of the country that your island is in the borders of.

Although with what you are looking to do, there would be plenty of places you could do it without any trouble (from the government atleast) Then there is always the option of having a boat in international waters :p

If you're recognised as a state even invading isn't a good idea for the aggressors - political bad press and the right to appeal in Strasbourg and/or Brussels would cost the country far more money than it's worth (assuming it would a european aggressor, I'm not sure who else would bother).

Boring old place to live though I suspect.

I think the real problem would be water/electricity, doubt there would be any military threat.
If the country who sells you the land refuses to give you water/electricty if you become your own state it could be problematic

However i have never stated i would do anything rather than another. you have so its hard for me to go first.
Why you are a mod is beyond me. You're acting like a little child cause you dislike a forumite.

I think i know where its hurting tho. You got egged by Laddey while working :/

Id like to point out double standards too.
If i suggested someone should fuck off, and basically die (that is what youre suggesting, because you wouldnt want laddey to appear again), I would be banned and for good reasons.

But its ok for a mod to do it. Tbh Tdc should be the only mod in here, he is the only one that doesnt act like a dick and can control our savage ways in a suitable manner.

even jokingly, well if megadave promised to top him self the world would be a better place..
is the same as saying laddey should dissapear for good.

hang on I didnt wish him dead Tris or gone forever.... I requested he stay on his island, please don't twist my words and stir the pot up.

I think that I like everyone else here am entitled to a point of view, regardless of my status as a mod, sorry if you don't like it. However in my opinion my statement it is no worse than some of the underhanded witchhunts I have witnessed on here recently.

Huntingdons lol.... If I wanted to act like a child then I would let Jup have his wicked way on these forums.. and would spend more time doing far more fun things like handing out many many more infractions. I think if you look at my tolerence level of forumites I have given 3 infractions since they were introduced.

I am not twisting, I am saying how it came across to me :).
To tell someone to disappear on an island never to return is like wishing the person to no longer be here amongst us or society, I thought we couldnt say things like that? i.e. foad.

I did not intent to pull a tohtori on your post (;))

Depends if you are wishing them dead Tris... which i am not. Maybe before taking the hypocritical mod stance you could have either questioned my motives?

However Tris let me also ask you this.... would you prefer someone to be direct (within reason) about their like / dislike of another forum member or would you prefer them to be more underhanded and secretive?

Nope people on here only want to be direct when it suits them, as soon as any one else does it that take issue and cry to the same mods they would berate for censoring them.

I know what you are saying there, but I was giving my view of what you were saying. If that is OK? To me someone being told to live on an island away from everyone is the same as that person being dead, as far as observers of that person are concerned.

Direct. i recently was in tohtoris poll is this is what you are refering to. Also being direct here that I dont like the way the mods are sometimes governed by a law of their own.

I wanted to hear Tris' response.... and yes some individuals will disect moderators posts looking for reason to call them nazi / shite etc etc etc anything to divert attention away from themselves or make the mods feel that they have no right to express a viewpoint.

Maybe nazi mod is the best way.... express my point of view via infraction  :p

Mods are the police of this site. Spouting random insults that was unprovoked (or provoked for that matter), abusing power (or threatening to, for example with infractions) is something you should avoid. Seems to me like you shouldn't be a mod. Lucky for you i dont have the power to determine that.

Tris I dont see mods breaking the rules on here... I have however seen many forums and moded a few as well in my many years. What I can tell you is that mods here are much more tolerent of behaviour than anywhere else I have ever been a member.

I think it is good and healthy to have a debate, disagreements, discussions and provoke emotions (within reason), however there is a very very fine line which occasionally gets crossed.

I dont think I have ever permabanned anyone here (regular poster) because these forums still manage to have colourful personalities which make threads fun to read, personally I wouldn't want to see the practice of extreame censorship because it would make these forums so very boring.
