Anyway, I've changed all relevant passwords. My gmail accounts are certainly not compromised, and my EA account was never logged in to. In fact, barring me actually playing DA:I again -which is the only reason I have an Origin account in the first place- I won't ever use it. Now all I have to do is get EA to remove the game I was gifted by our haxxor friend.

Syberia 2 - i see you're a man of exquisite tastes.

Also, is the haxxor-bought game a trap?

so what happened looks like this:

A) somehow haxxor makes an account on EA's answers site that references my data. I know this, because I got an email about it and I certainly didn't make it myself.

B) haxxor gets on the chat to EA to try to get them to update (my) Origin email address with one of his choosing without answering any security questions (lol btw). EA offers to call him to verify but haxxor pretends to not have access to a phone. fine, says EA, here's OUR phone number. contact us at your earliest convenience.

C) haxxor gets on the chat again to complain that he can't access (my) Origin from the Answers site and EA rightfully tells him that they are two different things and offers to call him to set things straight. haxxor demurs.

D) magically a game gets bought and appears in MY origin account (lol^2)

I've considered this. I've also considered the fact that it may even be a marketing stunt. Regardless, I'm not touching it and want to get EA to remove it.

Edit: they have to call me at 16hrs NL time.

I got an email about resetting my password, as if someone else was trying to access my account. I just reset it myself and increased the complexity of my password.

Use Lastpass to generate impossibly long gibberish passwords for important stuff, and enable two-factor authentication on anything you can. Except Freddyshouse, because I tried that once and it sucks.

yeah, two factor I agree with, but super long/complicated passwords are a bit of a meh thing really. the address space doesn't get any more complicated to work through if you use "aaa111" or if you use "$foA0fNolIg9ygMnejfwdp/"

edit: naturally a good BF will run through all the things that are relatively "easy". using "aaa111" as an actual password is probably a bad idea.

Syberia 2 is free on Origin in the "On The House" section. You must have clicked it or it's automatically added if you log in.

All sorted now. In fact, kudos to EA support. I sent them a call-me request and got called almost before I'd pressed send. Dude verified I was who I claimed, sorted my worries. Got rid of the unwanted game and gave me some password protection advice all in the space of 5 minutes. Very professional. Good job.

Had this a while back. SOme Russian dude managed to get into my account. Change the password, changed the security questions and changed the damn language. Got my password reset but couldn't do anything else. Did the call-back thing and my phone was ringing 5 seconds after clicking submit. Couldn't fault them.

Tom

I and others use 2FA here on FreddysHouse without any issue. I replied to your original post in the feedback but didn't hear anything back (2 factor auth). Do you want to continue over there so we can resolve whatever issue you are having?

I never turned it on. I figured you'd have ninja'd the rest of the setup so hard that FH was unhackable!

Anyway. How's your life been treating you mein furher? :)

Hehe, unfortunately nothing is ever hack proof although I do use bcrypt for password storage. However, I have enforced 2FA for admins of the forums just in case.

I am good thanks, rather busy with real life stuff, not much time to rest and whatever time I do have to wind down I usually use it to catch up on my many TV shows. You? (Perhaps a PC or a new thread so as not to hijack this one?)

Btw, Hail Deebs! :p

It worked fine on the desktop, but whenever I tried to log in using my phone or my tablet, it took me to some page and asked for some authenticator code I didn't have (IIRC). I couldn't get past whatever it wanted, so I turned it off.
