My Mage Template

A lot of people have asked me what im wearing these days, and there seem to be a few mage posts around, so ill show you what I came up with.

Now its not a standard template, so before you go slagging it off think about what ive got here..

First up my requirements, I MUST have Nahilas (proc) + cb (mezz) + 5% passive pierce + at least one charge pierce item (Nahilas might not be essentail but I want to give the snare proc a trial).

Ill allow 1 under cap on anything. It means nothing at the end of the day.
Im 1 under cast speed, but ive tested and with a 3 second spell I dont cast any faster after 2 mins of continuous casting (given my aug dex 3). So dont tell me I need more dex or cast speed :D

Im 1 under cap on range, but im a light eld and can ns anything comming, I really dont have a problem with other mages. 1% extra cast range makes no difference, the day I feel ive lost a battle due to it ill rethink.

And now for the big +. This is a more sturdy template than any ive seen yet, with 88 extra hps and croc ring I have about (6%+5%) more dmg reduction/extra life. Meaning I can stay alive 10% longer vs slash than a template without these.

You might think that my resists are low in places, but once you factor in croc ring and my hits my template performs better against raw dmg than any ive seen so far. Note that the resits that are under (less than 10%) are mainly those covered by druid resist buffs anyway.

crocring sounds excellent on paper but is hardly as good in practice.. i wouldnt ever fit it even on my bard template ;d

granted u gonna have about 150 more hits than most casters, and therefore last 1 more offhand swing or 1 more rapidshoot hit, but with 1X% on all the most cmon enemy dmg type resist, ur extra hits or that croc ring absorption are gonna cost u high xdd

Assuming u know that but liddul reminder:
heat - fire bolts/dds
cold - ice wizs and mid base dd(runies/bds) or sm lt
body - sorc/caba lts
.../shrug

Can you show me a template with +80hps, croc, cb and nahila that beats this? If you can I would like to see it.

The 1X% isnt a problem at all, heat/cold are roughly 8% under cap, but I have 6% more hit points than a non overcap hit template, when you add croc ring in too (5%), Ill last longer against a fire mage than someone with capped fire resist in their 'so called capped' template ;)

Admitidly ill be a few percent longer on duration of cold spells, my extra hits and croc ring dont help against that, but I feel thats an ok sacrafice given my durability against melee and how naturaly strong my class is against other casters anyway...

i fail to understand ur logic, how can 150 more hits and a crappy dmg abs make up for taking 8 to 10% more dmg on ALL comon enemy spells? (unless u dont count on heals.. soloing purposes? and even then..)

i believe eluvia was pointing out at 6 artis on template with hard/rare items such as eirinys charm, zahur ring, morai gem.. contrasted with the 'lousy' total bonuses

Sorry, but that last 1% makes no noticable difference on a 3 second spell for me, I have tested this myself, untill you provide more than gut instinct then ill go with fact.

That template is ok, but with croc and more hits mine last longer in battle and thats what counts.

I would have to agree with most ppl here, with all those rare items, you have to be able to make a better template. This is the one im using for my theurg (which should be be similar to making eld temp), im not using ctr tho.

you won't last longer because a mage that is getting nuked but not healed, will die. mages HAVE to be healed to survive a beating, and less healing is needed with cap resist.

Heals dont factor into it really, both a high resist and high hit point mage take damage and get heals... At some point each mage dies, thats what matters really, not what their resists are or their hit points, but when they die...

Croc ring has 5% dmg reduction, that will do roughly the same for damage reduction as +5% elemental resist..

A mage only has 1500 hps unbuffed, 150 more hps would make him last 10% longer, roughly the same as +10% elemental resist.

hits and croc ring work against ALL spells and melee too ;)

Only true in a mathematical sense, I get heals too, yeah a druid healing me will have to work 10% harder to keep me up, but I am an elph that aint exactly hard...

Your template is quite good Boni but realize this plz before answering to my thread:

1.Your template consists some of the uber top rare items
2.You dont cap vital resists
3.You focus more on utility than stability


In other words - u must have spend quite long time to farm/buy all those items and yet u came up with a template which ( compared to a good standard ) its just decent ( ofc no yelling or laughing - just my advice ) instead of getting MUCH easyer stuff for it and have a better template..

Yes indeed u might last longer in battle BUT since when the one who lasts longer in battle is what we want? I though the one who wins the battle is what we want , aint? So yes u might last longer with an uber healer but whats the result of it if u havent done anything else than keeping busy your druid spamming his group heal - wasting his mana...

Casters arent melee characters and should no play like that imho.. U dont work with the idea " Hey im charging to beat em.. " cause ofc u are dead fish.. U waiting the right moment , behind a tree/rock/troll/keep/shit or anything to start your party ( unless u are an eld with berserker play style ;p )
My point is that your HP aint matter sooooooooo much working for like hell to have as much as u can since u aint 1st in battle but rather 2nd or at least thats how most casters plays or i have seen so far ...

So my opinion for this template is that its rather a good template but your resists needs work even if it cost you to lose some hp ( resists >>> hp ) imho..

Dont take it as a flame or dunno what else..

Just my 2 token pieces of advice as a friend and as a hib player :)

Yeah that one is ok, I considered using a template probably identicle to that. The trouble is your overall lastability is down on me on even elemental stats as you dont include croc ring and have 48 hps less than me. 48hps=+3%, croc ring=+5%, so subtract 8% from your resist across the board (or add them to mine and compare) and mine has the edge.

1). Who cares, im a die hard pve'r and I used these items for their stats, that some of them are hard to farm makes little difference to me, I understand that its a hard template to replicate, but its one that brings up some interesting concepts in template building and is the best I can come up with given my requisites.

2). Read my previous posts, who cares? Its about lastability, resist are one aspect that help you not die, so are hits, so is croc ring. A good template maker understands the purpose of all 3.

3). No I focus on both, my template has lost nothing that any other mage template has, the only thing I have lost is a few percent on duration based resists, the few resits I have under cap are more than made up for with hits and croc ring.

Ill say again, as a light eld its my job to supress other casters and with ns / d/q debuff, stunn, base bolt, spec dd etc as a class im damn good at it, but including nahila+croc+88hps+capped melee means I can survive significantly longer against a melee attack without gimping my offence in any form,

I would say they last 150hits longer, which is 10% longer, why do you doubt the plain logic in that? Mages tend to take a lot of damage and then either get healed / bodyguraded / enemy kileld / enemy grappled etc, once a decent heal hits im back on 100%...

one funny thing about toa is utility, a random proc here or there, a useful charge etc turns a lose into a win soo many times..

Nice, an almost plausable 400hps template...

Youve nerfed your dmg a bit, your +light and +int are both a bit substandard and shame theres no croc ring in there, but its a nice attempt.

and btw its all about making the first mezz/stune/nuke
that how it have been for me the last 4 month whit that temp.
