Everyone keeps going on about this, about how great it is.

Why should I buy it? I've searched high and low but nobody seems to know why its so good.

I don't even know what it is, why don't you ask all the people that keep going on about it. :)

Only way I knew about this game was through popular CoD players, who started posting videos of minecraft instead on youtube hehe. Might be worth checking out since they do commentaries and stuff in-game.

I have it. It's funny as fuck. The reason people like it is the freedom. It's a huge timesink and will get worse(better?) in that respect all the time as new features and multiplayer features are added.

there are some epic projects (someone made a fucking huge planet earth - probably programatically but still).

When you first play it you will think it's shit. Then you read the forum startup guides and suddenly it gets interesting.

I got the Alpha version and played it for about 7 hours non-stop yesterday, is great fun.

Has the building element of games like Rollercoaster Tycoon, and the sense of adventure and freedom of games like Dungeon Keeper and Darkfall.

Sandbox building games are well and good, but the mix of danger and rpg elements works really well in this.

Here's the aforementioned vid:

I've been playing this on and off for a few weeks, it starts slow, but it gets quite fun after a while. Considering it is still in alpha it is actually a lot of fun. Hopefully they will improve the visuals a little as time goes on, but the gameplay is quite unique really.

If you whack a sheep with a spade you get wool. This should happen in real life.

Having a look at it on youtube, at first I thought "wtf is this?" but it looks pretty good as a sunday afternoon time killer.

its pretty mad tbh. total sandbox stuff, pottering about and exploring etc. some serious vertigo when your on top of a mountain above the clouds and the see the drop in front of you.

and tunnelling around underground and hearing zombies and stuff on the other side of walls is ultra creepy,

This is the main site Minecraft

One guys been developing it for about a year now i think, and he's now got a couple of extra dev guys and someone to work on textures and stuff and has a fair pile of investment behind the project supposedly.

yea what shaggy said :)

other day i dug down.. went sideways, then went up.. putting in stairs and lights

took me over an hour and half, and i came out half way up a mountain, trust me to not check direction and landscape

its very random, but immense fun :)

buy it now , its 10 euro, which is chuff all, and its a full version, will be more expensive on Beta, and more on release

ive just spent an hour rebuilding the front of my castle. for some reason I had 5 of those green exploding cock monsters trying to get a piece of my ass and they blew the entire front of my house off :(

there was a massive crater. I think my prototype tnt monster trap may have contributed to the damage as well however........

That is probably the most annoying thing in the game, I had some rather epic towers and stuff going and they ruined them lol

So many projects to work on as they take my fancy!
  • Big oil rig thing sticking out of the deep water in front of my house.
  • Renovating house to be all stonework, decorating with bookcases and pictures. Adding windows.
  • Huge mine complex under house with mini bases every hundred metres or so with storage, smelting and crafting stations.
  • Massive big chasm thing I'm hollowing out under the sea accessible via my oil rig.
  • Big flaming statue up on the highest hill so I can find my way home.
  • The constant search for iron and diamonds!

Also I love exploring the cave systems, gradually pacifying them and looting all the minerals.
I was carrying pretty much my entire load of iron and tools down to one of my subterranean bases when I fell in the lava... lesson learned!

are you punching it repeatadly ?
you have to click and hold, the block should get more and more darker squares appears until it shatters and you get "stuff"

if you want "stuff " you need to use tools on higher things

wood you can mine with your hands, or an axe, or an egg (obviously)
if you want stone from stone, you need a pick

better versions massively speed up digging.
