All I was saying was that I find certain lyrics and artwork of Slayer objectionable. You don't need to be blonde haired and blue - eyed to have Nazi sympathies. I honestly don't know if Slayer are national socialists - all I do know is that glorifying the Holocaust is deeply objectionable. Whether Slayer do this is open to interpretation. The only people who know are Kerry and crew. Everything else is speculation.

They weren't 'glorifying' Mengele, Auschwitz or the Holocaust in general at all, they were just singing about it. In the same way 'Jihad' on the new album is sung from the terrorists' point of view but the band aren't glorifying flying planes into buildings, they're just singing about it and giving a different viewpoint from the normal one. Heard an interview with the band about that very subject last week on the Radio 1 rock show, and they basically said "we know we're going to get a lot of shit for it, but it's a subject on everybody's mind and this is our take on it".

Round about the time 'Reign In Blood' came out, Tom Araya got hit with the "you're glorifying Nazism!" accusation by an interviewer; his response was that, as a dark-skinned Chilean man, he'd have been destined for the showers under the Nazis as well and promoting it would be pretty stupid. Kerry himself has said that while he is unashamedly conservative politically, he's never been anything like a Nazi - and if you're wondering when he said that, it was when I interviewed him for the radio show I used to do in Wales :D; I'd wanted to ask him about his openly-professed right-wing views, because it was unusual for a musician to be right-wing as most seem to tend to the left, politically...the only other openly right-wing muso I could think of was Johnny Ramone.

Singing about something =/= promoting something. When Tom sings '213', he's not actually saying "hey kids, go kill someone and eat them!". I'm a devout atheist, but I've written songs about angels.

I listen to lots of different stuff, think I like Melodic and Death most though:

-In Flames
-Nightwish (older and newer)
-Blind Guardian
-Children of Bodom
-Amon Amarth
-Iced Earth (casually)
-Demons & Wizards
-Amorphis (old and new)
-Apocalyptica
-Freedom Call (once heared that in a DAoC vid and bought a disc ^^ quite funny sometimes)
-Iron Maiden

I'm really not into Black at all, don't like it mostly, same goes for Rammstein. I mean the shit they're spouting is ugly (I'm German, I understand the lyrics and the nonexistant creativity makes me cry)

I grew out of the metal scene ages ago, aldough I now enjoy modern trendy music like trance, d&b etc etc, I still pick up my guitar and play Metallica or enjoy some old metal tunes from time to time.

I guess I just got tired of dressing in black, wearing the same stupid cloths and having a shit mentality towards everyone else who was not a metalhead.

Oh and last time fantomas toured NZ, briefly met Dave Lombardo (from slayer) and he didnt come across as having any nazi leanings.

Nah, Melvins are kind of Sabbath-y fuzz/grunge stoner stuff to my ears. They were a huge influence on all the Seattle bands.

You dont have to dress in black and having shit mentality towards other people to enjoy good music imho, most people thinks i listen to rap etc, because of the way im dressing.

Basicly should be leaving this thread alone since it's just a good place for your basic lockering and stereotyping...

Even people who enjoy the genre are annoying as f*ck when they go around shouting "metallica ain't metal, it's GRUNGYWUNGY metal!!"

F*cks sake, it's metal if it's metal. That's all.

I enjoy AC/DC, G&R, accept..you know...old rock stuff. Also metallica, megadeth, rob zombie, white zombie, more melodic like nightwish and those kindsa bands, weird crap like System, industrial types like Static X...and the list goes on and on and on...

In a nutshell....i like metal, i like to wear black clothes(not because of the music i listen to), and i'm generally a nice dude towards others, hell, even open doors when some suitf*ck ain't bothered.

All metalheads are puberty black wearing gravestone kickers.

All trance people are drug headed vandalists.

All rap people are black social welfare abusers.

All pop people are gay or teenager girls.

Ain't it grand? :wanker:

Well white zombie is basicly older :D

To keep it short.

There's a same amount of difference as comparing old black eyed peas album to the new one.

I like most metal, but prefer music where I can vaguely make out the words ;)

Fave metal bands are Faith no More, Metallica, Machine Head, Avenged Sevenfold, Slayer, Dio, Lacuna Coil etc, so I think I'm well founded in saying I like most genres of metal, probably with the exception of extreme/black/death metal. I'm much more into the music than the image, and I think any band that disappears so far up their own arses with their image and marketing have lost touch with the music and the audiences.

Incidentally, I watched Metal: A Headbanger's Journey last night - was very very interesting, and I'd heartily recommend it to anyone else that has any interest in metal.

i can see what your saying regarding the image in the sence of "i have no idea what they are on about but im badass cos i like them"....cos ye you do get that....however i will admit there are bands i like i cant follow vocals wise (cryptopsy..lord worm vocals) but i fuckin love the music itself...im not like "i like (insert band name) so that makes me cool"...i dont give a shit if other metallers think they suck beyond belief...i like them an to me thats all that matters...an no offence but you mention the image thing but you like A7X...find it quite funny tbh cos i think they fuckin suck..just come across as a bunch of image obsessed ***** that really aint that good....infact my honest opinion of them is they suck..hard.
