Strangley enough, ive just tried q3 demo at 800-600, 1024-768 ,high quality sound and low quality sound. And it's made no difference whatsoever.
Odd odd.

a good cfg consists of about 3 essential lines, and they're connection based. Nothing else is required.

End of (legible) conversation.

I believe Sar was actually looking to help you, due to the fact you were getting stinged by people using cl_maxpackets 100, however if you don't want his help, then you have no reason to accuse people of cheating for using the best config for themselves.

Yes, I know pretty much everything about writing Q3configs, which from Dreddeds reluctance to share he probably realises. And I was asking because I'm certain that there are a few settings set wrongly in your config dredded which are giving you problems.

Off out now for another day of boozing, so I'll post my config later tonight.

No, it may reach the server before, however Quake3 timestamps each movement/firing etc update in the packet. It would be an unfair advantage if that wasn't the case. If anyone ever wondered why sometimes there's a flag capture after the timelimit has been hit, you now have your answer ;O)

Example to illustrate, over simplified and as a result not entirely accurate but I hope I get the idea across:

In summary, Quake3 processes client movement/firing in packets based on the timestamp at a fixed frequency. Results of that processing, containing updated gameworld information, player death etc are forwarded to each client xx times a second, usually 20 based on servers sv_fps.

The reason for trying to match your cl_maxpackets to your fps or a divisor of your fps is for responsivness / feel.
  • Set your com_maxfps to a level that is sustainable in the heaviest of firefights
    (UC Guide Demos may be of help)
  • Set cl_maxpackets to match your new com_maxfps or to a divisor of it.

See the guide page on FPS if you do a lot of trick jumps, the last section of the page may be of help =O)

With such a high workload recently I'm not around as much as I would like. Sadly that means I've lost contact with many in Savage, my fault, not theirs =]

err can u use 100 maxpackets and - timenudge in the league severs like b/w and savage?

100 maxpax is permitted in BW leagues, and timenudge is limited to a -30 cap IIRC.

i feel the same way, at a Lan you can have my config np but posting it here, i think not ( my config works for me and i am sort of happy with it ie. if i miss it's me that has missed ) - ( note: have u noticed how good UT players are at playing q3 when u fix them an ok config ) like every time i fire a rocket i say must remove projectile smoke and r_shadows but never get round to it.

also when you see a mega post of q3 configs the game is on it's way oot. also i played qw with no mouselook for years ? and q3 with a sens of 30 and i still had fun ! it's all about fun in the end :)

oh i was drunk, you know the way you can rationalize stuff, after a few beers.

it went a bit like that for qw on the bw forums, everybody posted their cfg's and the next thing nobody was playing and most ppl jumped lol to Q3, but that might have been on the other bw message board.

I love shoving my 100 maxpackets down peoples throats, especialy whiney cunts like you :)

Or would you prefer i used 30 maxpackets and you could see my 15 ping ? but then you'd moan about that..
