Here is the second post with Matrix Reloaded in the title that I have started, and no doubt not the last that will appear here in the next few weeks.
Went to a double bill last night, the original Matrix, followed by Reloaded at midnight. The cinema was showing it on 4 screens and everyone was sold out, people queing for two hours (thankfully we kept our seats from Matrix and didnt have to queue).
It was great to see the original on the big screen again, and it doesnt look dated at all, the effects looks realistic -a point that will become important in a while.
Matrix Reloaded uses lots of computer graphics, especially in scenes involving Neo, and its very very apparent. Either the films budget or technology wasn't up to the job, but it really ditracts from a film when your watching real people one minute and little more than a computer game the next.
Seeing the original film didnt help as it makes the new one look cheap, thankfully the amount of action and later fight sequences (especially the ghost programs sequence) make up for it.
The film is nowhere near as good as the original, but I think that would be impossible. It is still a really good movie though and well worth seeing. I'd love to say more but I dont want to give the story away -the plot is about of much as an issue as it was in the first movie.
On reading this it sounds a bit like I was dissapointed with the movie. It's true, it is dissapointing considering all the hype and brilliance of the first movie. But it is a great movie, it keeps you watching and wanting more, and wanting to see it again.
Oh, and wait till the end of the credits for a very nice Matrix Revolutions trailer which will leave you gasping for more.
