Actually a fairly respected opinion of the creation of the universe is that two other universes banged together.

With still absolutely no fundamental backing evidence other than peoples models based on an incomplete knowledge of the workings of the universe.

As I said I'm not disclaiming the big bang or even such theories but this pathetic belief some people have that modern science explains all is just as sad as people who belive the Bible explains all. There are still utterly fundamental questions about the universe that have not been answered -- such as all the finding all the particles of matter or even WHY any particle should attract another (yes yes its gravity but no one can actually prove why it happens)

Blindly following any one "doctrine" in the belief that it has all the answers and never makes mistakes is very sad. Open your minds to other possibilities and others ways of thinking. I just object to the likes of Plightstar who say its totally unfair for religious people to push their views on him BUT its totally alright for him to spew his views and we should all just accept them because he says so

Funnily enough that's not a description of Gravity. The currently held belief is that masses distort space creating a funnel effect, this causes objects to fall 'down' the space funnel thus accelerating towards the mass.

And therefore a black hole has a huge mass and distorts space so much is "sucks" everything else into it....

Unfortunately "space" is one area of science that is made up of a lot of theories which have yet to be proved and are continuously being revised....

This makes it quite difficult to explain how things began or how they work

Just out of curiosity have you actually looked into or read any theories on the stuff you're spouting off about or are you just relying on what you were taught at school

Three things.

1) Science doesn't prove anything. A research scientist does not try to prove their theory, they try to disprove it. When they cannot do this the theory becomes more respectable and the simulatanious development of products based apon this theory will reinforce it.

2) Everyone throws the word "religion" around very easily. Take into account that many - maybe most - people have a belief without being affiliated to a religion. Some take only a limited amount of their faith from a religious institution. Most people in the world do make up their own minds.

So, I'm going to put myself in the line of fire. I am, for intents and purposes a practising Catholic. This is how I tend to introduce my faith. In reality I am someone who believes in God who finds a Catholic church a comfortable place to enjoy my faith and I find the environment beneficial to my mindset.

Now, Catholics are easily stereotyped. So, am I opposed to contraception? No. I have personal views on the significance of sex but I don't follow the strict Catholic doctrine.
Am I oppsed to Abortion? Yes.... mostly. As a form of contraception I find it quite disgusting. However, contrary to the Catholic stereotype I would never force a mother that would die in childbirth to have that child. Rape pregnacies are just difficult and I really don't know what my viewpoint is. I'm just as open to admit that as my viewpoint as any other more concrete belief.

I guess I'm putting myself out a little more into the open to try and illustrate, as best I can, that branding people by religion, even when they affiliate themselves, is never going to be fully accurate in any circumstance.

3) Who was that guy in the taxi rank? And how did such a thread turn into this?

I tend to throw the word religion about quite a bit. I broke it one day, but managed to stick it back together with some superglue.

I think I've given my religious views before here, they are very far removed from any conventional religion. I agree, everyone has there own view on who or what makes the world work, and people pick bits and pieces that make sense to them and fit in with their morals.

Just I decided I should form my own church.

I really ought to sort out the tax breaks.
