Truth is, modemers are deleuded about lpb's - they look at it like the holy grail. (i did too once)

Then i got isdn.

Then i realised the only thing over modem in all truths was the fact that it was more stable. If the server is laggy for modemers, it's still gonna be laggy for us lpbs, just more stable.

HL is practically equall. Computer spec also plays a big part, as does isp.


They may moan cos they might lose to lpb's, but i make sure i moan when i have magical bending bullets following me round a corner.

In all truths, how many games nowadays are really written for non-broadband (well good ones ) conections (i.e. they are more optimised for better ones)

All this does is show that the whinging modem peeps are just newbies looking for a reason for why they aren't l33t - cos, ya know, they are really if it wasnt for my oh so super 400000 second advantage over them. In fact i even win games with a 1000 frags, before the maps has even loaded...... all because of my Intelligent Superior Dangerous Netcode.....

Anyway, its cs. Does it matter if u die? As long as the team wins - something which is totally overlooked lately imo.

On the matter of team play, I have seen some much better teamplay since 1.1, mainly on the newmaps. As people dont know every nook and cranny they stick together use the radio and yes even plant and defuse bombs

What i said applies to BW servers and I am glad players have stopped responding to tactical suggestions with flames.

my ping is usually 200- (not 100-) also, I guess it's because I'm on a LAN. But hey, it still rox0rs and your base still does belong to us /

erm, I connect over lan and my ping is practically the same as if i wasn't. LAN pings should be <10 ms, like 1ms. If you are getting pings like that, sort your LAN out or your connection....

It doesnt matter if your on a 50 ping, or a 150 ping... or even a 250 ping.. when it comes down to it the new net code is more biased towards your reaction speed than anything else..

if you cant react fast enough.. your dead...

So what that most people can afford an ISDN line, or an ADSL or cable connection, it doesnt make them any better in the long run, just means their connections more stable...

oh and they can download a lot more porn than you can in an hour

Lets get this out the way first, I'm a pretty average player there are lots of better players than me, Meatballs for one. He owned me but one day I will have my revenge (I can dream can't I).

But in the morning I play at work for a hour on a T1 connection ping about 20-30, in an evening I play on 56K ping of about 160-240, there is very little difference some but not much.

When I started playing about 1 month ago I was crap on both, through a little practice(about 10 hours a week), patience and watching what people like meatballs do when Im dead, I am a little better, most of the time I break even in kills to deaths. Sometimes (very rare) i can be top of team on either 56K or T1. The LPBs that are good, are because they practice.

Stop whinning about ping, its tactics, concentration and skill that win.

I am a hpb (avg 230 - 250) ping and often get wasted uke: in every game (usually by lpb)

But what the hell- its only a game. The most satisfying time is when I managed to WHACK a LBP (even if it is by sneaking up behind him with a sledgehammer)

Have played CS through a LAN and performed fairly reasonably so I reckon ping does give some advantage - but mostly it depends how good you are.

Being an LPB in CS only gives you a marginal advantage over an HPB. The only time the LPB will get the better of me is A: He's better than I am or B: an I shoot, he shoots at the same time moment and his bullets hit me before mine hit him due to his lower latency.

CS netcode is fairly even although I find being an HPB (250ms +) on a UT or Tac Ops server is tantamount to being target practice for the opposition ie: you pull the trigger and they is a split second delay before you fire the gun.

OK as for the getting your ISP sorted out for the modemmers so that you can have a reasonable ping(Ch3tan has made this point several times in several posts) my arguement is time. Working a 50 to 60 hour week cuts that time out, then trying to fit in a SOCIAL(emphasis on the social, boys) life around that is difficult. But sometimes I like to sit at home and relax with a good game of CS (When my connection lets me) so I have to put up with high pings.

I'm not completely against LPBs as the game does boil down to 3 other things: skill, knowledge of the map, and luck. The third being the biggest keyfactor sometimes. For example in 3 rounds on cbble I managed 7 for 1 and was the best player on the 18 man server until my connection timed out, my ping you ask? Only an ordinary 300ms for me. I know some people will find that a shite score but for me it is a little above average.

However it does annoy me when I begin firing at the same time as an LPB and his bullets take me out before I can take him past 75 health.

When using stealth pings dont matter its when you r running head to head hit counts as an LPB bullets r bound to register on the server faster than a HPB even if you shoot @ the same time.....and UNLIKE action half life when you die bullets you have already fired dont register so if you fire @ the same time HPB is gonna win every time..............not much of a point but one i feel in need to make...............ohhhhh shit I was meant to be getting sleep ffs who invented these f**King machines..........:sleeping:

Hey can someone help me out here. My friend and I were having a game of cs not long ago on his comp. It was tundra and we were having a few ping probs. As he charged out into the centre his ping shot up to 2000 and continued way ap to 3000 after he died before coming back down again. The guy who killed him went by the name of Tom and so jokingly Dave said lucky git Tom. Tom, obviously one of these "oh look I'm so good people" replied with fuck off that was skill you stupid wanker. Offended by this Dave replied no mate it was luck, my ping went 2000+. But Tom being the stupid twat that he is decided to hurl abuse at dave for the rest of the match as he obviously couldn't take the truth. He obviously wasn't that good though as Dave gunned him down several times before that incident.

So if anyone sees this Tom please explain to him that 2000ms = 2 seconds therefore he saw Dave 2 seconds before Dave saw him and Dave still managed to take him down to 30 health before dying.

All this moaning and groaning about pings. Everyone has had days where connections are particularly bad, but we still play the game because it's fun.

Besides, why are you 56K'ers moaning, i'm on a 33.6K and i dont mind the odd bit of lag. (the net just wouldn't be the same without it )

Oh and the internet is only slow because more people use it.

being an Lpb... i just like to say, well my ping is like (10-40) and i find it really easy to kill HPw's, it was 1 on 1 with me and this 400 pinger, i ran round this corner and he was running towards me, it took him about 4 seconds to realise i was infront of him.

So the moral of this story is...

I blew his head away with my AK.

U say u cant beat anyone with a ping under 100 u need to practice.

Ping does not make a good cs player it helps a good player become better, i know and continuasly see lame ass LPB'S.

Its only an excuse for being shit sorry but there it is, i used 56k for 6 months on cs before getting cable.

With 56k my score would hit over 30 kills most rounds and allways finishing in the top 3 of any server, i dont do much better with cable mayby another 10 to 15 kills per game.

But be assured i owned with 56k and i know plenty of players that still do

after all why buy a ferrari and put a 1.1 fiesta engine in it, if u dont want to play against peeps who have a lower ping play quake 1 or duke nukem ull find ur pings are sweet as there is alot more to ping speeds than just a modem, grafx etc make the ping worse.

And a final point if u have a spare pc even a shite 1 put the modem in that and run a gateway ull find ur ping will drop to 135 - 160 so ull have no real dissadvantage and us lpb will not get killed by compensation shots
