Really? You are the first person who tells me Codemaster's customer service is good :) Well, I am glad to hear that, however I can't help myself disliking them for what they've done (together with Turbine). I guess I am reacting too emotionally about this, because I've been waiting for a long time for LOTRO... and now I am back to the single-player games again.

But now that you mentioned D&D O - is it good? I've heard so far nothing good about this game and never thought about giving it a try.

my experience of the customer service during beta was also good, but it could be different after release.

Buggy quests such as NPCs getting stuck were dealt with and even quest items that didn't drop (due to bug) were sorted out as well. All within 30 mins on multiple occasions.

DDO isnt bad - its not really an mmo though more a set of quests with a communal area (the city) where you can form up groups and buy/sell.

Some of the quests are really good but its a game that downright requires a group above the lowest couple of levels - I'm lucky to play in a full guild group but if you cant get a group you cant play - there are a lot of pick up groups but you can still be stuck sometimes.

I'd stick it out for LOTR though - cant wait till my pre-order access comes thru :)

Bought a pre-order pack in Game today for £2 - gives you access to the servers 10 days before normal retail start (so you can get online on 14th April) plus you get a key for 'founders deals' - £35 for 6 months subscription or £99 for lifetime subs and an ingame item.

Might have a spare pack around the 14th also (though you'd have to download the client).

Cmon the 14th :)

started playing it yesterday, seems quite enjoyable. Only downside is so far, after 10 levels i've still yet to experience a group or even anyone looking for a group. All it seems to be is solo questing, i want a fellowship and a guild :(

I guess there arent many guilds since its beta and all chars will be wiped in a couple of weeks time.

I also wondered if people are soloing to try and get the no deaths titles :)

There seems to be plenty of guilds about but unless someone does random guild invites i dont think i'll be getting one since groups are so rare.

Wont be getting no deaths title since i got a falling death at lvl6 :p

Check the codemasters forums for a guild, there are a few listed.
I probably need to start looking for a new guild too, when the beta is over I won't be able to play anymore on the US-servers :(
As for grouping - I grouped for the first time when I was level 2, when you invite somebody in the same area as you in a fellowship, they seldom refuse ;)

Tried the PVP the other day and it kind of put me off the whole game, that and the lack of grouping. PvP concept really does seem poor though, dont think its going to work well at all :(

Good news for those who want to play in the US -Turbine have dropped the IP blocking idea - they stated that they still wish people would play in their own region but they wont stop you subscribing if you buy the right version of the client.

Yeah I've been waiting for this game for fucking ever. I even got a subforum open for it on Barrysworld (when it was called Middle Earth Online) but nobody used it. ;) I hope Codemasters drop their IP block thing because I've been part of a guild of people from around the world waiting for this game since 2002. :( I didn't get much chance to play the beta but in a way I'm glad because it means it'll all be new and shiny to me. :)

Yes, Turbine finally lifted the IP-blocking, I am really glad they did. It was a stupid decision after all, I am still wondering why they needed the whole thing.
But it doesn't matter now, they lifted it and now I am happy :)
I can't wait for Saturday to start playing the open beta :)

Whats wrong with Fileplanet? Works fine for me.

i just spent 13 hours downloading from fileplanet only to get a corrupt file :D

might just go get PC gamer, easier than pissing about with fileplanet/torrents :p

PC Gamer will still require you to install an 850meg patch and also get to a Key from CVG.

This is what i did in the end, at least the resumable download works where Fileplanet's seems to be broken for some reason.

Might be useful to some people to know that the pre-order DVD (you can get it in Game in UK) has version 1.12 on it And hi-res files for better armour skins etc. You can install this then point the file turbinelauncher.exe.config at LOTROBeta instead of LOTREU and it all works nicely with the Beta keys.

It did do a small update (about 400 files) compared with the 4k files the Beta client needed.

Well on the strenght of peoples posts here I got the beta and played for some hours last night.

Reaching the dizzy heights of lvl 6 with my Minstrel [much fun] I arrived in the mainland town that bgan with a "C" Celbrum or similar [i'm an elf]

Did some quests, read the crafting manual. there is a quest which send syou to a vineyard to "Kill some goblins"

The vinyard is "West of town", west of town is a mountain range, a ruins, a forest and more mountains. I spent maybe 35-45 minutes running along the egde of the mountains untill i was due north of town and ran south untill i was due south of town, i ventured into the mountains where I could and yes, i re-read the quest blurb maybe 12 times.

I'm going to try and find it again tonight, but my irritation level rose to the point where i just had to log out of the game and went and shot people in CSS to get rid of my annoyance.

In my mind "West of town" means "west of town" not, north south east..west.

Untill this point I had found all the things fairly easily [even a few copper veins] using my WoW/DAoC sense of direction and the map for figuring out west [:p]

Still, i found the interface very easy [if overly graphical for my liking] I do like the "Tiers" of songs the Minstrel can play which build up to the really good group buffs, thats a nice addition.

Sadly it strikes me as one of these games I'll end up playing alone and not liking.

I like DDO..when you have agroup ;), i like WoW, when i have a group...soloing isn't my thing, as yet only had one group to kill Frostmantle!! evil frosties, so we didn't have to wait for the repop.

More time tonight/over the easter weekend to see if i will buy or not..

But that vineyard really did annoy me :p
