Cant wait to see what they do with this film. Whatever happens Im sure its going to provoke the most Internet debate ever concerning a film - Tolkien fanatics are sure to criticise every small departure from the text, while Im interested to see what they do with the slower parts of the book. I hope it is "dark" and resists the urge to turn the lighter parts in the novel into an under-12's disney-fest, although the fact that it is going to be Under 12's IMHO does not bode well. I dont think we can hope for an Excalibur-type gorefest but hopefully they wont make too much of a balls of it.

Hope it's good... i read the book ages ago so i'm not gonna be one of the peeps slagging it off if it strays from original text... and watching a movie is loads easier than reading that monster of a book again... ;)

I read LOTR many times, and several other books by Mr. Tolkien. As a child I spent many wonderfull hours exploring Middle Earth. Re-reading the books as an adult gave me a greater understanding that allowed me to enjoy them even more. I totally respect the awsome creativity of Mr. Tolkien. Imho, he still 0wns fantasy and no others can touch him :D.
I am looking forward to the movie with great anticipation. I really hope they don't get done badly as that would be a shame, and unfitting of those incredible books.

I read the hobbit but never got round to LOTR, if they made it an action novel, maybe :)

I admit to not having ever read any Tolkien books, nor am I likely to ever do so.. but Lord of the Rings : forgive my childlike mind, but doesn't that sound ever so slightly phallic?
/me sits in a corner

Lord of the Rings is being directed by one Mr Peter Jackson. Now I dont know if you remember, but he also directed Bad Taste and Braindead. Two of the most unintentionally funny movies of all time (for eg is Bad Taste a guy misses his target with a rocket launcher and blows a sheep up instead). Dont think this bodes well for Lord of the Rings at all tbh

Er Kryten,

Maybe anal, but not phallic ;)

And Bodhi, which Braindead did he direct? - there was one hilarious one which I thought was a spoof-horror and definitely intentionally hilarious.

I remember fondly the scene at the end where he goes at all the zombies with a lawnmower - pure class - Doom 3 should have a lawnmower instead of a chainsaw. ;)
