Lord of the Rings is *still* outstanding.

once you get past all the pretty pictures and animations you're left with a dull film with poor acting and a poor basis of a plot to back it up.

The whole point of Tom Bombadil was to show that in the grande scheme of things that the Dark Lord Sauron was only a minor entity! Its a glimpse of the larger story of the Silmarillion etc and not a plot diversion at all.

Also I was more interested in seeing the barrow whights and how the fellowship got tooled up rather than having Aragorn say here's some swords guys (that looked dumb to me).

They are saying the Two Towers will be even better (hope so as that book was hard going)

heh I hope so too. there is much potential for brillance there :)

I have a question btw:
on the LotR DVD I got from my mum the sound seems to 'skip' every so often. If I scan back to the point it 'skipped' and play again it doesn't repeat itself but plays normally. The DVD is brand spanking new and so is the player. The link to the amp is an optical one and it doesn't do it on other DVD's I have. Anyone have any ideas? tia.

Since it's only on that dvd it's prolly a bit dirty, try running the play surface under cool tap water and then drying it off with a lint free cloth. If that doesn't solve it it's a bit of a puzzle

Heh, well I would suppose that it would "need" an Nvidia card & drivers installed in order to work...

the audio codec problem seems to occur when you have a different ac3 codec installed. If you've installed lots of different audio codecs to get some videos to play, odds are one of them was for ac3 stream. Once you get rid of it, it'll play just fine. I've got a geforce 3 Ti200, was getting the same message about the audio codecs, and I fixed it when I uninstalled my ac3 codec
