I'm thinking of gettin a Logi Mouseman Wheel. As far as I can remember they used to have mouseballs, but according to the logitech webby, the new ver is optical.

Any opinions appreciated.

Personally I've tried the microsoft opticals and hate them, they have a speed limit for teacking so if u are used to long fast movements with a low sensitivity, they go mad, also if u pick the mouse up slightly off the mouse mat, it will still track. I don't know if the Logi opticals suffer from the same problem tho.

Other people tho seem to really like optical mice as u don't have to clean em at least and they report better accuracy, but for me that wasnt the case, after trying Opticals and Boomslangs, I'm back on the old smaller Logitech wheelmouse and precision mouse mat (which made a bigger difference in accuracy than the mice did for me).

I got a Logi Mouseman Wheel a few weeks back, with a ball. That's not to say they haven't changed it since though =]

I've also got a M$ opti, but the cable setup within the mouse is somewhat flakey and has resulted in the conductors breaking - I no longer trust my jerryrigged splicing to hold during matches which is why I replaced it. I did have difficulties with high-speed movements initally - the rate it kicks in it is pretty sensitive to the surface you use though. After some experimentation, I found that using the financial listings from a broadsheet newspaper, laminated to prevent damage, and attached to an old hard mousemat I had lying around did wonders - was able to do 180 turns as quick as I do with a ball mouse. Although I did end up with a RJ bind as I didn't quite trust it enough for a good flicked jump
