That might hold up some ground if it weren't for the fact he's evaded arrest for what, 20 years? He's not Mr New Kid on the Block you know.

The point is. It makes absolutely no difference to what is actually happening in Uganda...

...actually, just read Wazz's post...says it better than I can.

yes, but now with the social media being able to spread propaganda so quick and so broad changes everything. Most here have never heard of Kony and MANY young ones (16-20) probably havnt been informed much of children as soldiers. So it doesnt really matter how old or new he is, it matters if people knew of him. Governments dont care, they only want to please their voters or ease their populations. Its all in the power of the people and all that jazz.

And yes i know Raven, you havnt spent the time to read up on this, you just start bashing it like an old sour gimp.

Actually, I already knew about Uganda. I didn't need to find out about it on facebook, I also didn't need to care about it to make myself feel better. If I cared about it I would actually do something about it.

aaand actually. Governments couldn't give a monkies what the people think on issues that actually matter.

Oh yes, Syria. Very bad mmm mmm. So lets discuss internet piracy!

his name was Rufio, and we all know how that ended.

Yeah, white man STEALING a child army from a black kid is fine.

By the way, to those saying this will make a difference by raising awareness, how arrogant can you be that you think governments don't already know about this, yet facebook does?

Nothing to do with *knowing* about it, of course they know about it. The US government weren't prepared to do anything about it because it wasn't in their interest but then lots of people started making noise and they did something.

The problem is that when they do something, it is usually sanctions which punish the entire populous. They won't take him out by force because it is not in their interest to do so.

Dicking about in Africa has hardly been a historic success. Stopping the supply of weapons to warlords would be a good start but I think that horse bolted decades ago. Supplying the opposition also usually backfires. The worrying thing I see happening is the increase in fundamentalist Islam in African states (As per Nigeria, Somalia etc) swapping one oppressive organisation with another, but in the case of Islam, a stateless presence with interchangeable leadership.

People like to blame the white man for Africa's troubles but that's an easy target. The problem is criminals and no real law and in most cases corrupt or under resourced government. Yes we could aid the governments but the awareness crowd would just start bleating on about colonialism and it would probably only work in the short term.

We have occupied Afghanistan for what? 11 years now? I don't doubt that within 1-2 years of us leaving it will be the same as it was before.

I don't know what to do about "The Africa problem" if I did I would have a Nobel prize. I certainly know that a viral campaign will make no difference whatsoever except make a bunch of people who don't care, pretend to care for a week or so before they forget all about it and move onto the next pointless trend.

Again, same reply, arrogance to think you matter that much :p

Even local riots...ahem...i mean protests don't change things.

I just explained how the government wasn't going to do anything and then, when lots of people made noise, it mattered and the government did something. So... arrogance? What?

And Raven, I'm not saying the US government's current effort in Uganda (100 "advisers") will make the blindest bit of difference; Toht just said it was arrogant to think governments didn't KNOW about it and I was pointing out that they, of course, did know.

So what did the government do because of this fcebook rabble? Or are you talking of a different incident, if so, would be wise to actually say which one.

Or is this a case of where the government ALREADY were doing something, then some sanctimonious facedicks jumped on the wagon to claim the prize?

"Oooh we helped save uganda!", no, you only spammed stuff over the internet and then thought you made a difference.

if everyone 'liked' the Kony2012 page on Facebook, it shows that those who 'liked' it actually care, to certain extents ofc, a majority of people will forget about it, after time, but if it influences 1/100 to do something about it, then yes, it's a complete and utter success
Actually caring about something (e.g. expending time, effort or funding on it) and "pretending" to care about something are very different things.

People go on about this sort of shit all the time, the entire "high moral ground" thing bores me to tears. Facebook was awash with "6 Soldiers Killed blah blah blah you posted about Whitney Houston blah blah blah" the other day. I bet none of the fuckers can actually tell you any of their names. Before anyone asks I don't know and I don't claim to, I'd just wish those left behind well.

I don't really see the problem with child soldiers. Surely it makes sense as they'd be that much harder to hit.

Bad stuff has been going down in Uganda for years and years with guerilla chiefs battling it out, raping, killing and abusing children.

My Dad was in the 'Special Air Service 'and they were always going out there when I was growing up. In the early 80's his team were captured, tortured and made to march for hundreds of miles, fortunately they were released after 6 weeks-mostly due to some dodgy deal, I reckon- rather than the media hype at the time. For the following 5 years the face of that particular guerilla chief fronted a dart board in the kitchen.

You kill one, 5 more are standing ready.

My step sister lives in Nelspruit, Mpumalanga currently which is a stable city. It was worse when she lived on the banks of the Zambezi, in the middle of the land and farming crisis where murders were daily. Africa is a beautiful country, but it is also one of the world's most corrupt countries, if not THE most corrupt.

Awareness is better than ignorance, but that video is self gratifying, emotional American crap.

Tears of the sun and blood diamond, while over the top Hollywood movies, showed this kind of shit in great detail. No one gives a shit, because nothing will ever change!

If all the facebooketeers(does not include all who just use FB) and other issue of the month clubbers would get armed, fly to africa(maybe not in that order) and risk their lives to overthrow the warlords, then something might change. Most likely scenario; all dead since it's civilians out for justice vs pro-warriors.

And want to know how many of those "righteous" people would then stay and take over because there's diamonds and sh*t? Yeah.
