You're missing the point - value aside - if an average sports car like the Boxster can beat the best motorcycle there is around a track that has a fair mixture of straights and corners then a supercar would shite all over any motorcycle.

My point about the original argument being invalid is that since my car isn't worth £9,000 (and ergo isn't as fast as a car that is) - a reasonable comparison cant be made between that and the fastest motorcycle around. It's like comparing a Fireblade to a Fiesta 1.1 or a M3 to a 50cc scooter.

In conclusion: "Cars are 'faster' than bikes". End of discussion.

"So nerr"

Hah! My old Escort could easily match the speed of any top sports car or bike you could name.

In a free fall.

A £6,000 motorcycle is even a lot faster in a striaght line while a car is faster round a corner.

£9,000 is not the best bike around.

Your point is still flawed.

The true end of the discussion.

So ner ner :p

Yes, hence cars being 'faster' than bikes. You did see the quotes didn't you? Faster doesn't necessarily mean "faster in a straight line". If a car beats a bike around a track, it is "faster". Understand?

£9,000 is not the best bike around.
Never said it was, you plucked £9,000 out of the air from somewhere, not me.

Your oringial point is still flawed.
"an "average" sports car like a Porsche Boxster shits on the fastest motorbike available" - I suppose Jeremy Clarkson exerted some kind of influence on the race that caused the motorcyclist to lose. Otherwise my original point still stands - "Cars are 'faster' than bikes".

The true end of the discussion.
Yes, three posts up - "Cars are 'faster' than bikes".

Any results can be influenced..perhaps this is a little bit too complicated for you to understand.

£9,000 is what most the bigger bikes cost.

So you say...in real life situation on real roads you wouldn't stand a chance in most cars.

Stupid CM stopped working last night :(

Astra and Escorts are typical cars young boy racers go for. We have em going round 'The Track' in nottingham all night long racing each other. Really its just a load of traffic lights around the main car park.

Always nice to see loads of Novas trying to race an Impreza that pulls up.

I think MANY of you are missing one other obvious point here.

There are people who like cars. There are people who like bikes. There are even the odd people who like both

For me a car is a necessary expenditure to get me from point A to point B safely (family in mind) and dry (for the few occasions it pisses down in Scotland)

Thats one of the reasons I have NEVER had a "sporty" car.

For me, nothing comes close to the adrenaline rush you get from riding on a bike (no matter the cost).

I like both since both are good for certain things :)

Bikes are alot more dangerous though. They tend to blame cars for accidents too. If they dont want accidents then stay and queue instead of weaving round cars!

In some cases yes....but they are not a LOT more dangerous.

I can tell you this, car drivers are stupid when it comes to sitting in there cans of spam......I should know I often have near misses with cars on my peddle bike and this happens when I'm in cycle lanes etc.

Yes I do see some cyclists doing stupid things.

No generally when a car sits in traffic, quiet often, drivers brains turn off to the fact other vehicles can still move. In one day alone I had 3 near misses which most probably would of causesd me great pain.

I fell off my mates bike at 30mph (dont ask how) once when I was younger and Ive never had the guts to ride one since.

You are right Embattle in so much as that in every day use bikes are a lot easier to get around on (getting through busy traffic etc) than cars. It's swings and roundabouts really - there's advantages and disadvantages in both cars and bikes (obviously).

heh hands off me privvys fs :)

gosh last time I fell off my bike I was downhilling [more or less] in a park. clipped my right shoulder dodging around a tree and shot off the path to the left. luckily a tree stopped me shooting down a ~30 yard slope. I lay knocked out with a broken collarbone till my m8 managed to wake me up.
havn't managed to scrape up the courage to be as psycho on my bike as I was...but I'm getting there

One of my mates was slip-streaming a bus pedalling at 30mph (he's good:D) when the bus did an emergency stop. He kind of crumpled and had to go to A&E. Ripped a huge chunk out his arm.

Worst accident I had on a bike when I was about 10 years old.

Flying down a hill wearing only shorts and a pair of sandals. Foot Slipped of the pedal and bounced me off the bike.

Bounced down the tarmac (like a stone skipping across water) bounced up onto the pavement and then on to the grass.

Ended up in A&E with very little skin left on my back.

I would have to disagree the wind resistance of an escort is much greater to that of a aerodynamic bike or sports car...

Ok I know its the end of the argument, but what post was you reading embattle, the answers and arguements you were giving hardly made sense when you put it to Durzels.
Lets keep it simple shall we, does anyone know what the fastest road car is these days, last I heard it was the Maclaren F1 but that was some time ago, then does anyone know what the fastest road bike is. Then all we do is get the stats and compare then like those top trump cards you got at school. Then we have a winner. Remember they have to be a vehicle used on the road not on the track otherwise we get formula one cars and all sorts.
But remember the fastest land vehicle ever, thrust SSC speed of sound, 4 wheels wasn't it? Or was it 3?

With slip-streaming I can do that.....I've done 30mph on a mountain bike without slip-stewaming though :)

Maclaren F1 0-60 is 3.2-3.3 secs
R1 Motorbike 0-60 is sub 3 secs

Thrust has 4 wheels and used 2 jet engines.

I remember the story about someone test driving a F1 and killing himself by hitting a lamp post.
