I think kids would come across a gay couple way before they're 9 years old and they will be inquisitive about it. (Unless they're extremely sheltered)

How you respond to their inquisitiveness will shape their views on it.

Frankly, it's a shame we've a separate lable for it other than "adults having consentual fun"...

Its entirely based on our culture, in huge swathes of the world, especially Africa, children grow up watching their parents having sex.
Much of the poor do not have the luxury of privacy or seperate rooms.

We might chose to hide things from them because of western notions of innocence, these are not universal beliefs...they are the produce of religion.
