Fuel Injection system is :

Motorola Modular Engine Managment System (MEMS-SPi]

You could probably get a Superchip (or a Unichip which is more expensive but mapped to the timing of your specific engine which varies slightly in every car even if they are the same make).

Failing that (or as well as) your other options are K&N 57i induction kits, FSB Boost Valves, etc - all of which will change the responsiveness and acceleration of your car.

All of the above could be purchased for around £300.

There are other avenues you can follow as well - performance cam kits, etc.

Year=1991
Make=Rover
Model=414
Your search found zero records, please make sure you are using the full manufacturer name (Chevrolet not Chevy) and a four digit year. Also use PICKUP as the model to find all pickup trucks instead of using F-100, Silverado, etc.

I can't find any systems for my car :(

Thanks for the advice. Would the K&N offer much more of a boost than my current injection system?
That Rover looks hideous. I've got nothing against bodykits (I had one on my old car) but that one doesn't look like it even fits properly...

Regarding K&N filters/induction kits - they basically just allow more air into the engine than standard air panels/filters which in turn results in faster combustion = more acceleration. In real terms it probably wont make any difference to your top speed, and maybe not real-world acceleration - but the responsiveness will change.

I think that'd look ace with a blue pearlescent paintwork. God I can't wait to get my student loan! :)

I've heard that ROM chips are a good upgrade, but anything that helps my 0-60 would be great. I love racing but that's probably because I work at a race track. :)

ROM chips = Superchips/Unichips :)

For serious horsepower upgrades you need to look at throttle bodies and engine transplants, which would both be well beyond £300-£500. To be honest, you could probably pick up a faster car by selling your current one or p/x'ing it with an extra £300-£500 for a faster Rover (or other car).

Just my 2p

A K&N on a 1.8 K Series will give you roughly 5-6bhp extra. The other thing you could do would be to add a decent sports exhaust system, this will allow for another 4bhp. (Note: this is not a big bore lamer faggot rude boy system a la frankie or TUG, but a more subtle approach). Then I spose chipping it would add another 5 or so bhp (I know nothing about this). All in all it's a nice gain of probabley around 15bhp, which doesnt sound alot, but on an engine that generates around 120bhp as standard it makes a nice little gain in speed and responsivness.

I'm only saying this as an MGF owner, it has a 1.8 K series too, I would assume it would be the same for any car with the same engine though. (e.g. Rovers, Lotus Elise, Caterham etc, although the caterhams already have perfect exhaust systems :)).

I agree with Bods on this one, I'm afraid - the Rover looks manky, the skirting just simply does not suit the car.

What he said!

I had a Superchip, K&N 57i induction kit and Peco exhaust (not the best) and with that I got about 20bhp more than the standard GTE.

It's definitely worth looking at for comparitively cheap-and-cheerful mods.

Same thing. :p

It's the gay avatars that all look stupidly alike. Given Bodhi's looks more like a child's scribble, but the point remains! ;)

Yay, thanks for the advice guys. I get another £1000 cheque in Jan for my student loan so I'll spend around 50% on new injection system and exhaust.

I will have to get a whole new exhaust won't I or the other parts will just restrict performance.

How much would I be looking at to get a new injection system and exhaust fitted?

I'd say around 300 for the exhaust. Don't forget that K&N though! They're only about 80 quid, well worth it.

I dunno about this whole "custom car" stuff. I saw one guy who had this uber-customised car the other day....as his friends were giving him a push start.

I got a plain vauxhall astra and it's never once not started. :)

That's because he probably ragged the arse of the car. You treat it well and it won't break down.

8.8 secs? i thought the 0-60 on the 414 SLi was about 11 secs?

anyhow... exor, i dont actually have a "rude byoy big bore" exhaust system, but have a custom made full stainless steel powerflow system that costs upwards of 350 quid. so you can shut up. and it is quiet too... which is nice...

anyhow, K&N are good true, but depending on engine design (i.e if it takes hot air off the exhaust manifold for cold conditions) having an open air filter (such as K&N) can make driving in cold conditions jerky. But all depends on engine air intake design.

If you are looking at real power, a cam change would help a lot, but although you are looking at about 10 - 15 bhp gain, you would have a horrible rough idle, and the low - mid range will have a lot lower power output, but your high end (about 5400 - 6800 rpm) will have the increased output. Depends how you normally drive it, if you rag it to the redline all the time then a cam would be ideal for you because you're not using the low - mid range much, but if you do drive around town, it would be pretty horrible to drive, plus the fact you cant have a turbo fitted once the cam (cams) due to durations.

have fun deciding

Nope 8.8seconds is my official time with two of us in the car, the other was timing. It was from the lights on a duel carraigeway and the ground was perfectly flat. :)

MY car is pretty damn fast, but I need more power :)

O

ahh right, you timed it yourself

:)

different timings to the official rover do though...

i aint done a test for mine, should do, but you cant compare it to anything.... isnt a true figure or somming...

I use about £5 of petrol a day and I only travel a few miles. My car just eats it, I'll have to get it serviced soon.

I used to do about 190 miles on a tank in my Astra when driving to work and back, about 230-250 at motorway cruising speeds. That said the tank was very small and only ever cost about £28 to fill up completely.

I've currently done about 75 miles in my new car since I last filled up and its used just under 1/2 a tank already! :( (and I'm guessing it costs about £40 to fill up)

:(

Incidentally...
I will have to get a whole new exhaust won't I or the other parts will just restrict performance.
You have to get a full system (including manifold) to notice an increase in performance - front pipe back just wont do! (I made that mistake at first)

O

I can put £40 worth of petrol in my tank.

I'm always accelerating form lights and red lining it though. Which is why I use so much peccy.

so the performance cams should suit you well then...?

i think i get about 25 - 30 miles out of a tenner sometimes, thats flooring it though

lol @ timing yerself with a stopwatch

do u know how inaccurate that is?

do you realise ur speedo is probs bullshitting you aswell? :)

1.4 K series engines are funky tho for their CC.. not bad.

If you use THAT much petrol, methinks thats runnin a tad rich??!?!

I saw a car once....Stop there?

Can't wemember what it was now, but it had a fitted 0-60 timer next to the speed clock. Just thought it was quite a goodily ikle thing.

Now delving into the dark alleys of my mind I believe it was on Top Gear, still can't wemember can tho. I hate not wemembering things.

*pulls hair 'lightly' so it doesn't hurt*

Note: This doesn't have much of a direct relevance to the conversation but I felt it was a extremely useful element to contribute, I applaude myself.

Of course it depends on the car YOU fucking dumbass. I'm well aware that some cars are better than others. I use the general term "cars" because cars have something motorbikes do not - grip.

Actually the speedo thing is actually true, most speedo's are pretty inaccurate but did you know it is actually illegal for the speedo to show the car going slower than it actually is.
