Let me just get this straight: when people died in the dreams they went to limbo right? But Fisher died and he ended up down in Cobb's dream with the city right?

Not quite crispy - when you die in a "normal" dream it wakes you up (hence at the begining Cobb shot Fischer so that he wouldn't feel the pain from being shot in various limbs - killing him woke him up (into another dream). The premise that they died when killed in the dream came about when they were heavily sedated - I can't remember the exact reason for why this was the case.

Cobb & his bird went to limbo because they went too deep in to her subconscious (i presume went down too many layers) - and couldn't wake up until the time elapsed

Im not sure were talking about the same thing. What im not understanding is why the target, Fisher, the guy they had to do the inception on, ended up down in Cobb's dream in the end. Its the red dotted line on the picture

Could be one of a number of reasons.
1. Cobb is still in his limbo, and projections can be people you know.
2. Cobb was in a dream state from when he was sedated in Mombassa.
3. Cobb was in a dream state from the very beginning of the film.

I also like the idea that Cobb is actually in an advanced form of therapy where HE is the target subject and all the main characters (apart from Mal) are psychologists in the shared dream. Ariadne seems far more aware of Cobb's psychology than anyone else.

Also Fisher was yanked back out of limbo by Ariadne. He went down to the 3rd level, died into limbo, came back, and rode the 'kicks' back along with everyone except Saito and Cobb. It's how come Saito woke up on the plane at the end. Cobb never left limbo so the final aeroplane section and everyone on it was his own construction. It's why it has the "perfect ending" without him going back up through the levels.

In many ways it's like "Minority Report" where it also had a "perfect ending". The suggestion with that film is that he's in a dream state from when he has his halo put on. Philip K Dick likes messing with perception and reality and the films made of his writings reflect that (Blade Runner, Total Recall, Next, Paycheck, A Scanner Darkly, Screamers and a few others).
I'm not saying Inception was a PKD story. I'm saying the style of the story was similar to PKD stories.

I liked the choice of song for the wake up call, nice little nod to Marion Cotillard who played Edith Piaf in La Vie en Rose :)

Just got back from this and I thought it was absolutely fantastic, shits all over any other any similarl genre film in the past few years +.

A number of people have said wasted opportunity with the dream states and how more could have been done. I completely disagree, one of the things I felt was so absorbing about this film was that despite the incredible effects, none of it felt like it was a "look at what we can do, we've got a massive budget so lets do some funky shit". That'd in effect make it some sort of action-porn. All of the amazing sequences felt entirely fundamental to the flow of the movie and unlike the set pieces in The Matrix and other similar films - these felt much more valid. When Neo fights Smith*100 in the park, it's part of the story but it's like a music video, you're entirely there thinking "oo funky". For me, when JGL was floating about in the hotel, when the train rolls though NY streets etc. it all felt like part of the narrative and so didn't take you out of the film.

One of the most fantastic things I got from this film I don't know if it was intentional, if anyone else had it or if it's just because I've not been sleeping well recently and thus am a little wonky. When the credits popped up it was the first moment in 2.5 hours that I snapped back in to reality and that in itself felt like a 'kick' the result left me with an amazing feeling. Anyone else get that or am I just losing my mind?

Oh and re: the elevator kick, nice little nod to The Matrix there. I've not seen Thirteenth Floor but does anyone know if there were references to that too?

Incidentally, this is the first film that has made me think "fuck it, I need a bluray player".

I have piracy issues. It seems silly to buy a standalone BD Player because the PS3 does the job nicely, I'm just waiting for the PS3 to be at a reasonable price point for me to buy it.

Additionally, I've yet to set up my projector at my flat due to amp issues. Once the rig is all set up I'll be much more inclined to do it :).

The more I think about it, the more I realise how lucky I am to be so utterly mentally fucked when I saw Inception. Didn't get much sleep last night and have been really drowsy and off the past few days due to some meds that are fucking me about a bit. Nothing serious but all day today I've been wandering about feeling almost like I'm dreaming. Absolutely A1 conditions for watching this film, had a huge affect on me.

Not the best conditions for driving though :D.

Edit timed out :\

That reminds me - didn't people say watching 2001 while high on LSD was amazing? I can imagine something similar would really work for this film. But don't do drugs, Kids!

I wouldn't go as far as to say one of my faves, but definitely bluray worthy.
It looks like Avatar Spec.Ed and Inception will be my Christmas prezzies this year.

Weighing up getting a PS3 for a bluray player since GT5 is out in November. Are most blurays upscaled or are there many genuine hd stuff on it?

Bluray movies? Yes, they're probably all in 1080p.

Games on the PS3? No, a fair chunk of them are 720p.

My PS3 gets these uses in this order...
1. Video stream player (PS3 Media server from my PC)
2. Bluray player (every bluray I have is 1080p, 1:1 exact mapping on FullHD).
3. Games (most are 720p upscaled to 1080p, but some are 1080p natively like WipeoutHD).

Went to see it Sat night with my bird. I thought it was kinda over rated compared to all the reviews i read, it drags on in parts to say the least.

Got it today with Tiger Woods :D
If you find you get fine speckles of random pixels across your image, that's your HDMI being crap and picking up RFI. As a personal observation, shielded HDMI cables are better than thin unshielded cables.
There is also no need to spend ++£'s on cables. £10-£15 for shielded cabling is more than enough.

Saw this yesterday, took my dear old mother with me. Apart from having to explain who the old guy was in limbo a number of times to her it was a superb film.

The whole concept of a dream within a dream, and the events in one reality affecting the other was just great.

The mind fuck at the end with the spinning top was very naughty. Bad Mr Nolan, bad!

I didn't spoil anything, said nothing about the plot whatsoever.... Hohum.

I thought they wore some very nice clothes.

Saw this tonight. Despite some inconsistencies, very good film indeed. I rather liked the pacing of the film so that it developed properly rather than being a blam blam rush. Most of the inconsistencies themselves are minor irritations rather than something that 'breaks' the film but I can see why control-freak fluff nazis are uncomfortable ;)

Great cast, I see that Mr. Nolan is giving gainful employment to his regulars again.

From my PoV, one of the best movies I saw.

It rly has got me and rly hope Nolan creates a prequel, sequel or spin-off (Ariadne's storyline e.g).

I did get this for Christmas so I've watched it through.
The last time that Cobb's totem falls over is when he's got a cocked gun next to his head. He visits the drug den in Mombasa and tries the powerful sedative for himself. From that point on, he doesn't spin his totem successfully. He tries once in the toilets before going on the plane but it falls off onto the floor. The next time he spins his totem is right in the last scene.

The implication is that everything from the drug den onward is dream state.

Red herring tbh, Cobb's totem is a total red herring the whole way through as when they explain what it's for, they say "you can't touch it as it would defeat the point" totems go by feel. The totem is used to see if you're in someone elses dream, the idea being they wouldn't know what your totem feels like so you can tell if it's fake. A totem falling over can be faked, as can a totem endlessly spinning so it's useless in its function *unless* it has a very specific feel when he spins it. If that's the case, then whether it falls or not is irrelevent.

That said, he does hold the gun to his head until it falls, so it's possible that this was just a mistake by Nolan, something overlooked.
