I was thinking that exactly but i was too chicken shit to post.

For a brief second (and i only mean for a short while), I thought the DaoC people were having "virtual memorials" for "virtual deaths" (you know, people that die in game?) but then i read some posts and was a little bit shocked.

ON the topic, why does anyone care if the forum is there? It is all daoc at the moment because the members that have died have been from there. Either that or we dont notice when someone outside of daoc passes away.

To be fair to those that don't like being reminded that nothing lasts forever, deebs could perhaps make viewing of that forum opt out?

People seem to play a lot of different games nowadays though , and to be honest a lot of the regular General posters, not that there are that many, dont actually seem to play many games anyway, if indeed any. I know Ill get shouts of yes-i-do from various people, but, as in the forum games recently, they've always "oo-just-got-a-prior-engagement"
Neither do I criticize this particularly, but it makes the idea of loads of us playing pc games together quite unlikely. In fact I suspect it was always like this. In the BW days I always tried to avoid posting in the general forum ,and stuck to the games ones, but of course I cant do that now because they are all deader than a dead thing.

Because, despite its good intentions, its just another subforum that will be used for a week or two then (fingers crossed) ignored for prolonged periods of time. There are more than enough unused subforums and (unused) sticky threads at the top of general without adding to them. Lets not add more clutter that is irrelevant to the majority of folks seeing it.

On a somewhat related subject: the entertainment section was moved to the toplevel years ago: any chance of getting rid of the 'moved' placeholder at the top of the general forum Deebs?

It helps some people at a painful time.

I think a lot of people with pretty serious illnesses are attracted to playing MMORPGs because it gives the chance to socialise and throws in escapism as well, and this attraction might skew the mortality rate slightly. Which is one of the reasons why, in the long murky past when I was a DAoC mod, I was so anti the whole "i hope u die irl" thing because I knew we had a fair few people with cancer using the boards.

So true, especially the escapism.

How about renaming "Freddy's Fallen" to "Daoc's Dead" and move it to the daoc forum so people who aint subscribed to that bollocks dont have to see it every time they click on general?

I will say this though I used to play DAOC, I grew out of it way over a year ago, however just because alot of the players of it are young and childish, I think the way most of you guys in the general forum go on about them is pathetic.

You class anyone that has anything to do with DAOC as a joke that cannot put two words together, I think this shows a serious lack of maturity on your behalf and I really do pity you. If you took the DAOC section away from these forums they would be dead within a few weeks.
