How big is your DVD collection?

Whats the point,really?

You watch a dvd, you've seen it.

Why spend £1,000's, just go down to Blockbuster, rent it, watch it, take it back.

I have precisely fuck all dvds (no dvd player either, just a ps2), and only a handfull of videos, that have all been xmas pressies.

If you have an independant video store in your area, please don't go to Blockbuster or one of the Major chains (Choices, Global etc) Your independant store (although his selection is probably not as good) is reliant on your trade especially as he is getting hammered (unfairly) by the major chains. If all the independants eventually close, you will be paying megabucks for your films with no broad selection of films (chains don't usually stock classics etc)

On behalf of The Popular Peoples Front For The Liberation Of errr.. independant video stores.

P.S. Many chains and independant stores have chosen NOT to stock Warner Bros films for the foreseesable future because Warners have embarked on a course of action that will give the consumer precisely 2 choices when it comes to film viewing - Cinema or buy the DVD (they receive half or more of the revenue this way). People on low income will not (if Warners succeed) be able to see movies except on telly - i.e. 3/4 yrs old.

Anyway, rant over.

Moving Target - "You've gotta be fuckin' kidding" is a quote from the movie!

film quote quiz: "You got a lotta heart, kid"

Absolutely top film, any guesses?

Agreed, if you are a grainophile, which I'm not. I watch movies generally on Sky digital though, on Box Office because I don't subscribe to the movie channels. So I'm getting good quality too.
Even so picture quality does not explain why you should buy the dvd as opposed to renting.

Part of the enjoyment is just owning the films.

Plus, watching a film isn't always about finding out what happens. It's the journey of watching it</pleb>

But it all depends on whether you're a film fanatic or not. As yuckfou said, each to their own.

I like buying the DVD, mainly so I have the choice of watching what I want when I want.

And until DVD quality films are available cheaply over the net on demand, I shall keep on doing so.

I'll watch Blade 2 tonight, but after that I may watch Dr Strangelove, or I may leave it for another day. Freedom of choice basically.

I never pay over £20 for a DVD, unless it's a super-duper extras bunged 2 disc DVD, or a DVD boxset of something.

The T2 UE would be a good example of the former, 24 a great example of the latter.

But I usually get 'em from Play.com, as they're usually only about £16 for new releases, compared to local shops which bung them on the shelves at £19.99-£24.99.

For instance:

Blade 2:

Shop: £16.99 -> £19.99
Play: £13.99

Yes, that is the 2-disc version released yesterday.

Also, the S1 boxset of B5 dvds - £33.99
Shop price: £44.99

BTW Trebz etc: Bad news about the B5 dvd release schedules - I read in Dreamwatch that the S2 boxset is not out until April, with S3 not being released until Nov '03.
