Hmm...GAME not stocking Catacombs?

I just had to go into town to do some stuff, and popped into GAME to pre-order 2 copies of Catacombs. Imagine my surprise when they said they had no release date anywhere on their books and, in fact, no details for Catacombs anywhere...I've bought/pre-ordered every DAOC disk I own from GAME to date; I hope something hasn't gone horribly wrong at the distribution end of things with what could be the most eagerly-awaited DAOC expansion yet imminent...

seems like GoA have put alot of time and effort into PR again.. like they said. Atm it seems 50% of subscribers wont be able to buy it in time for release atm, so god knows how they are hopeing to sell it new people.

Its not on ukgames.com either comes down to marketing again just look at WoW in every shop you can think about. In pc mags i.e pc gamer had first page of WoW adverts about 6 issues now the other day I saw a WoW advert on tv it looked pretty hot. What we get a stupid 2 page in pc zone with a gay frair in full pink at a bridge in nf to advtise nf it looked shit.

oh well looks like i will buy from somewhere what whats my money or is it just that whoever distributes Catacombs don't understand that maybe just maybe by stocking in the store which is on most high streets might just stop DOAC becoming a game of the past

a) is it sale or return - most unlikely it would be so the company concerned has to consider profit on what it expects to sell vs. cost of 'left over games'
b) value of 'left over games' will fall dramatically after Mythic bring out a Classic/SI/ToA/Cat collection. This has already been promised for the Italian market.
c) How much publicity are GoA going to mount. Shops are more likely to stock something if it is being pushed.
d) State of the market - WoW has just been launched, huge sales etc - shops will take this into account. Also XBox, Playstation etc etc
e) Sales of ToA vs. playerbase at that time; size of current playerbase - it will give them a bench mark.
f) How has it done in the US. There is a thread on the VN boards with several posts from US folks who work in EB saying that it hasn't sold very well. There are posts from players etc saying it has but its the employee ones that are telling.

In my experience GAME are a great company and good at what they do. Maybe they are going to list it but if not .....

Jeez, if GAME aren't stocking it then you have almost zero visablity on the highstreet and there is no way you can expect a large influx of new players if the largest video game retailer in the U.K. doesn't sell your expansions. Online retailers are great but a huge percentage of the U.K. population refuse to shop online for security reasons so if you don't have shelf space on the high street then you have almost nothing. Virgin and HMV may be stocking it but thier P.C. sales are pitiful, their main video game buisness is consoles. Someone needs to get on the distributors and find out what the hell is happening, this could be very damaging with only 3 weeks to launch.

play.com aren't the best really. They don't tend to get the games to you on the day of release. I can remember ToA, I preordered from play.com, game out on Friday, my copy arrived the following Tuesday in common with other play.com customers I knew. Actually thinking about it, maybe it was better that they never delivered that particular expansion...

As for GAME, when WoW was released there was huge posters and displays up in the shop, you couldn't miss the fact that it had been released. Never seen that for Camelot.

If Game choose not to stock it theres not really alot GOA can do about it. It would seem to make their planned advertising a bit of a waste of time though, if any potential new customers wont be able to buy a copy from the largest chain of game stores in the UK. Current players that are interested will get it from wherever its available: but thats not really who most advertising would be targetting.

Silly idea.

I checked the web site after reading the thread and sure enough they are not stocking it.
Simple commercial decision I assume. Cost of stocking vs. profit from expected sales.
They are stocking Guild Wars - new game, advertising campaign, potential huge sales, higher price (29.99) than Catacombs so potential higher profit per unit sold.

hmm given it's being distributed by Digital Jesters (if the amazon info is correct) and GAME stock plenty of other Digital Jesters games I doubt it's a problem with that.

Plus they usually have a load of copies pre-ordered by us crazy existing players.

Sounds like an administrative booboo or it's been labelled as an "april game" and therefore not in the system yet.

Every expansion, GAME have Royally f*cked me over, they are utterly useless.

i.e.
1: Clueless as to when they are coming out.
2: Refused to sell me a copy they had in the drawer even though head office had told them too. (remember that farce people)
3: Reserved me a copy each time and then sold it the day of release to someone else.
4: Different set of staff every time I go, always clueless noobs, seems if you are any good they put you in an office behind a desk.

It's not that the above performance is THAT bad, it's just the reactions of the staff to your obvious dissapointment range from

'what's his problem, it's not like reserving a game in store and us writing it in the 'reserved book, with name and address actually means jack shit'

Deepfried, he's a real life friend of mine, GAME do need to stock the game if the game wants more players, just like chodax said, it's the biggest shop retailer for games in the uk.

Also www.gameplay.co.uk is far better than www.play.com for games, they always come on time or a few days before, at least in my experience with a lot of previous orders.They really need to get advertising though but i think it's been left too late.

I've always found Game sub par in terms of service and supply etc , and i well remember the farce of " no its released next Friday not today ( you get the idea ) when it was released that day and took numerous calls to head office to get them to sell the damn thing .

Also plenty of times i've gone in to find about a PC Game , only to find its " not on our list or we don't have a release date for that etc" . ( except the release is 1 week away ) . Or they'll charge your more in your local shop than it states on the website or vice versa .

Game imo are totally shit these days when it comes to PC games , they're more interested in console crap .

Thats my opinion anyway , and tbh i'll never use game again to get another game from .

I'd rather order from www.play.com or some other supplier , even if it takes an extra day or 2

Last time I checked GAME weren't stocking any daoc, they didn't even have a left over copy of ToA.
