I understood that the two films came up with the ideas independently (bloc war was always a thing in Dredd comics) but that the Raid just happened to come out first and did it better.
Maybe but both were close in execution and not bad. Not seen raid 2

I assume you've seen all the decent sci-fi thats come out over the last few years (i.e. stuff like Moon, Sunshine, etc.)

The three colours trilogy by Krzysztof Kieślowski
Dark City - Alex Proyas

Soylent Green and Dark Star :)
Soylent green rocks

Just watched "Ip Man 2" on Netflix. Didn't notice the 2 in the title so now I have to go and watch "Ip Man" as well!

I think it's semi biographical about a Masters move to Hong Kong in 1949 to teach his Wing Chun martial art.
I think he was Bruce Lee's mentor.

It's obviously a Kung Fu film but it's done extremely well.

Ip Man is absolutely awesome, streets better than the second one.

I watched Birdman last night. A very good film, I had absolutely no idea what was going to happen.

You really don't fucking understand the concept of spoilers do you ffs. How many times do you have to be told?

Someone already suggested the French film "Special Forces". I liked it a lot.

There's some Danish movies worth watching:
Pusher Triology (Pusher 2 is best, imho)
Adam's Apples
Flame and Citron
Teddy Bear

Some indie movies I thought were pretty decent
Fat Kid Rules the World
The Ambassador (documentary)
Blackfish (documentary)
An Awkward Sexual Adventure (comedy, this is hilarious)
The Express (sports)
In A World (comedy)
Interview with a Hitman
The Lincoln Lawyer
Maidentrip (documentary)
Middle Men
Chef

If you can get the TV series of Arn: The Knight Templar, then that's worth a watch. The movie edition cut down 3+ hours into 90 minutes.

Get Bone Tomahawk. I have just watched this, it is superb - and utterly revolting in a "holy shit, I can't believe I just saw that" way.

I guarantee that at a certain point in the film you'll feel incredibly uncomfortable.

Watching "San Andreas" film is shit but Carla Gugino is smoking hot and makes the film worth watching.

Watching this now - my god Alexandra Daddario's tits jiggle like a pair of pent up earthquakes themselves!

Jiro Dreams of Sushi - utterly absorbing documentary that's also wonderfully filmed. Even if you don't like to eat raw fish, you will after watching this.

There must be a ton of old black and whites you could watch? I love Cary Grant 'Arsenic and Old Lace', Bringing up Baby'. What about Night of the Hunter Robert Mitchum. To Kill a Mockingbird, The Grapes of Wrath? etc etc
