Anybody bought it yet ?

I got it delivered on Friday. It is slow and jerky as hell.

My system spec should handle it no Probs

Athlon XP2400
Asus FX 5600 Graphics card
1GbPC 2100 RAM
Asus nForce 2 Mobo

All drivers are upto date

I have turned refresh rate down to 60Hz and it is still Slooooooooooowwww. Anybody else had any problems ?

What settings are you trying to run it in?

I started with the basic settings that were default. I hace since turned everything down from High Details(Shadows etc) to medium and my monitor refresh rate to 60 Hz. Any action scene in it takes ages.

I've been playing this most of the weekend and I've been genuinely impressed by how well it performs. Hardly any slowdown at all.

I run it at 85Hz, Vsync on, 1152x864 with all the details at max except textures which are set to medium. My specs are:

AMD Athlon 1.4Ghz
1GB SDRAM
GeForce 4 Ti4400

The only problem I had is that the game wouldn't start at all until I disabled anti-aliasing in Windows Display options.

There are lots of reports of performance issues with Halo on the PC, but I've been very lucky.

This game absolutely rocks.

Hmmm....interesting - which generation of DirectX does Halo employ, I wonder? Perhaps this could be something similar to what's happened with HL2/3DMark?

When I installed it is said it was 9.01b If I am not mistaken

Im running it on an Athlon XP 2100+, 60GB HD, Ti4800SE, 512MB RAM.

No problems running at everything high, 1024x768 (except the lag everyone gets in MP games, and the occasional freeze (but that's because my PC needs a reformat)).

I have a problem.
Just bought this game, when I tried to run it first time I got some message about me driver not being whql certified.
So , I changed my video drivers back to the latest detonators, and it worked , i played it for a bit.
Then I came out of the game, and realised of course that my refreshrate on XP had been reset to 60hz, so I ran NVRefresh fix again and all was sorted.
EXCEPT, that the next time I try to play Halo i get the "no whql" thing again.
Obviously the NVrefresh fix is changing something, and the Microsoft game isnt having any of it.
Does anyone know anything about this, or shall i just take the wanky thing back to the shop ?

It'll come to a crawl on the final level - you mark my words. Did on the XB to being almost unplayable.

I think its one of the most fun multiplayer games Ive played in ages. It just wasnt this much fun on the XBox. It looks so much better and I think it runs faster too.

Athlon 3000+, 1Gb ram, ATI 9700 pro.

Seems to take hits in FPS when you are hosting and in an intense fire fight. Even with my spec I have to lower the resolution under those conditions.

Someone help me with my problem :(
Or am I supposed to change refresh rate and restart pc every time I want to play it ?

have you tried changing the res under which halo runs?

That's what I was going to suggest, Throddy. In Video Options in Halo you can specify the refresh rate you want. Mine's set to 85Hz, for example.

But who do you bother with NVrefresh? Surely the only useful thing in that utility was to force the refresh rate, but that functionality is now built in to the nVidia drivers.

Tis the worst multiplayer game I've ever paid money for.

It's got real issues that should have been seen a million miles away.
But for reasons unknown, they were missed.

Sniper rifle.

Team killing.

No co-op.

Chat text. Team interaction in general.

Crap blocky models.

Basically they completed making Halo for the pc 2 years ago, and didn't change it one bit when they released it now.

Ive done a bit of tinkering and it plays pretty well at 800X600 screen Res. and 85Hz refresh rate.

I am not impressed that it slows right down at 1024x768 even with all detail levels turned right down :(

Actually though, on checking there doesnt seem to be a thing in there to force the refresh rate for openGL games, just D3D.
As HL and q3 both run in OpenGL this may cause me a problem .
Or am I wrong again ?

Hehe :)
To be honest m8, Im at the point of giving up. Im bound to play HL games far more than Halo, yet this is at odds with everything else on my pc :(

I dont think it looks that nice tbh TDC.
Mind you , that may be tainted by the fact that I have to reload my video drivers everytime I play it at the moment ...

Gah - mine hasn't arrived yet :(

And it will probably crush my GeForce 3 beneath its Covenant Jackboots :(

well, I haven't actually seen it in a computer yet :( for some odd reason my local games shoppe doesn't have a pc set up with games to preview (though they have all the consoles running on wide screen tvs :/)

FIXED
Thanks to me good clan mate Jis for this one :D
If you have the same problem as me , do this -

Right click your Halo icon, click properties. For the Target, it should look something like the following:

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe"

after that, you want to add your video mode and refresh rate, in the format -vidmode horizontal, vertical, refresh rate.

For my setting, I use 1024x768@102Hz. Mine looks like the following

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Halo\halo.exe" -vidmode 1024,768,102

Once you do this, Halo will work properly. You will not be able to manually change the resolution through the menus with this set. If you want to run at a higher res, set it on the command line. You will be able to adjust the game's FPS mechanism. For best gameplay, I recommend using the 30 FPS setting. For best display on CRTs, use the VSYNC setting, and for all out frame rate freaks or LCD users, use the NO-VSYNC setting.

W00t well played Jis m8 :)

Mmmm :)
21 fps on a game that aint even that pretty, at 800-600 res .Yay !
:(
To be honest, it goes up to 45 or so, but hit a low of 18, and spent a lot of time in the 20's.
This is with vsync on btw .
To see fps you can press Ctrl/F12.

Stop obsessing over the frame rate. This isn't quake3 or counter strike. I found that the frame rate drop you describe doesn't really affect the game play that much compared to the likes of quake. Don't get me wrong it is noticable to an extent, but all i'm saying is enjoy the game for what it is and stop worrying about what it looks like.

In the end gameplay is what it's all about. Not the fecking gfx.
