Tuthmes said:Someone tell me exactly why strafing is a skill, if you see sleezers movie for example; runthrough -> walk backwards -> backstyle. Or VF scout movie; walk backwards, face/stick, walk backwards, face/stick. Same goes for landing ice storm ofc. Is it such a skill to abuse the game mechanics to land a certain style you otherwise couldnt or to give your opponent an "out of view" message. If so, do you have to strafe to win? Ie. the skills you are lacking, you try to make up with strafing from Hibernia to Albion and back again, so you might win a battle or 2?

Septina said:Not like standing face to face spamming styles towards eachother is skills either tho.
The person that evades, blocks, parrys etc the most wins. Plain and simple.
1vs1 doesnt involve much skill tbh, the one that abuses the game mechanics the most and gets lucky wins.![]()
grizzy said:Also.. as Septina said, it makes melee fights alot more intrestingI dno, maybe u have to be a hardcore FPS player to understand this, who knows :x
grizzy said:ROFL get ur facts straight, walking thru the other guy isnt really strafing(more like abusing the game mechanics), strafing is something that makes ur char move sideways and if ur good on the mouse u can actually get positionals off which is necessery in my case cuz 2h line isnt really fluffy for soloing, altho if the opponent knows how to use mouse for moving it is way too easy to counter this and even give the guy and advantage for me to start getting out of view and all that crap

Congax said:You strafe in FPS games so you get hit less and to create an harder aim target for your foe. Doing this in an MMORPG doesn't make the solo fight fair. It just created advantages for yourself, you cannot really name this fair now, can you?
grizzy said:euh ... didnt i mention u can counter strafing by actually using ur mouse ? which means u can easily turn those advantages i have over to disadvantages
Tuthmes said:Well if walking through is more like abusing game mechanics, then so should strafing sideways and landing a sidestyle, when someone's facing you. About harcore FPS players, we all know they are the biggest cheaters there are in this world.
On the otherhand i wouldnt mind strafing/walkthrough but then Mythic should do something about the game mechanics and enterly loose /face and /stick.
<shush>me give em pat on the back, then kick em in the nutsCongax said:You crossrealmer! :-p
Congax said:So then you'd get two strafing players who constantly keep counter-strafing eachother! That kinda makes the point of strafing obsolete, they could just aswell stand still :-p
grizzy said:well , heres where the skill part comes in which actually makes it intresting and luck doesnt become the biggest factor anymore
grizzy said:just said it to Congax and will say it to u also, strafing CAN be countered, not with using /face or /stick (i dont use any of those in a 1 vs 1 fight myself) but by simply learning to use ur mouse... if ppl did know how to use theyr mouse, there wud barely be any strafe QQ
Congax said:Let's take an exemple:
One the left side we have a fine celt Blademaster, and on the right side we have a Half-Ogre mercenary.
The fight begins! BM starts turning around, spamming Ice-storm and taunt style back-up.
Merc sees this and is like: 'y0, not with me. He starts strafing around so the other one cant stun and spams side-style with taunt as back-up.
They all just hit eachother with taunt, but at the end of the fight, one of them will hurl in a bucket.![]()
grizzy said:no
doesnt have to be like that, mistakes can be made and are made in this business also.
theres also this pov that if the merc is crush specced he can get hes anytimer stun chain off, but the BM in the other hand has a good evade and parry chain if hes pierce specced
Elitestoner said:lol, its easily counterable..
Tuthmes said:There's also a pov that you might miss your parry reactionary, cause you both strafed and got an oov message.
