Yeah you use your 1 max rep to work out your starting weight. You should aim to get to your 1 max rep within 4 weeks or so.

6 weeks using Bill Starr's 5x5 (the one i use when i feel like pumping my strenght)

Bill Starr's is quite different to stronglifts. It's a variation for when you've already peaked with stronglifts.
