Rant Grass Cutting & Neighbours.

So, about 6 months ago, a Asian family moved into the house next door, before, it was a white family, a christian family (Don't whip out the race cards yet, please.)

When they moved in, the back garden was a absolute forest, they cut that down immediately, but the front, had cut grass - I wonder why? - oh yeah, your nice neighbours decide not to be selfish and stop at your 'private land mark' and continues to cut the rest of your grass! - for the last, what, uhm, 6 months, I've been doing this, again and again, not ONCE have they cut their back garden, since they moved in, apart from, hmm, yesterday.

They decided to cut their grass, front and back, but at the front they left a line, in the grass, where their land stops, and ours begins (obviously we have shared front gardens, if you haven't caught on yet.)

So, me, being the mature one, obviously goes out, and cuts the grass as I usually do, but goes half way into their grass, and do a couple of Lawn-Mower wheel spins, to destroy their perfect lines, because I'm a god.

Now, I ask you, is this a cultural thing among asian/Indian families, of ownership of private land?

Because I've seen this happen with alot of friends and their gardens, and one asian friend does the same thing.

EDIT - Oh yeah, and we've never spoke to them before, so there wouldn't be a reason to fall out with us - curtains always shut, lights always off sorta couple.

edit: i should point out that the only time i have ever cut grass is when i lived with the parents, and i convinced them to get gravel cos i hated it and now live on the 6th floor with no grass of my own! woohoo!!

Why don't you do this: Go knock on, say I noticed you left a line there, would you like to organise a system as to where one will do the entire front patch one month and the other will do the next month?


Problem solved - plus you'll get to actually converse with your neighbours perhaps establishing a friendship which will benefit you both in the long run!?! :>

Because they're never there, lol, and I don't mind doing their grass, and them not doing theirs, its just the fact they have the cheek to let us do theirs, then they decide to do their grass, after 6 months, and not do ours.

Anyway, the reason they let you is probably because you ARE doing it, you didn't ask or anything you just went and did it any way..

So from their perspective, that weirdo from next door who never speaks to them randomly cuts their grass without permission. They cut the grass and make a point of cutting in such a way as to show said weirdo where the line between their property and his is in the hope he gets the message, because let's face it, he's a nutter who cuts grass, we're not going to speak to him, who knows what the fucker will do with his errant Flymo next?

we had some indian neighbours once and after getting to know them they were awesome they used to give me leftover food/recipes etc too which is an awesome bonus!

We had neighbours like that before, but they were a family, this just a couple who seems they don't have time for anybody...

When they moved in, they ripped loads of plants and hedges out, so they could cut a corner, to get onto their drive with 1% less effort.

EDIT - Just thought it was common courtesy to help someone out, by doing their grass, didn't realise a full blown conversation was needed for this, haha

So? To be honest everything you've said in this thread reveals far more about you than your neighbours, and not in a good way.

perhaps they're intimidated by the new surroundings and just need a friendly person to welcome them to the neighbourhood!

or perhaps they're just reclusive folk that hate the world

I moved into the place i'm in about 1.5 years ago now, first thing i did was knock on to each neighbour introduced myself and let them know if my music/tv etc was too loud not to hesitate to come tell me and i'll adjust accordingly

if it bothers you that much put a small fence (on your side of the garden just to avoid a dispute) and cut your grass to your hearts content

ive dont really know my neighbours that well, one guy appears to be a drug dealer (at least shady characters knock on his door in the evenings and they walk down the stairs round the corner to "talk"), the next one along is a crazy old woman who gets lost in our building (i usually help find her way back to her apartment unless she appears to be leaving the building, in which case i point her in the right direction)

neither are people i particularly want to hang around with

Its still none of your business. (NB. Its also why I'd never buy a house with a shared garden unless there was a management company looking after it; I've seen this kind of nonsense before).

Without reading the thread, i'll give my opinion before dwelling into the insanity

The polite way would be to go over and say "Ah hello there, neighbour Gwaddy here. I've noticed that your grass sometimes gets a bit long, so mind if i cut it while i cut my own?"

Otherwise it's their lawn so shouldn't bother with it too much.
