Close racing and overtaking are what I like to see in a race. While F1 is faster, they are like scalextrics cars a lot of the time, with very little overtaking outside of pit stops.
Why, in your opinion, is F1 the most exciting? (in terms of cars ofcourse, bikes>all, so no need for any discussion there ;) )

I find the WRC a helleva lot more exciting than formula one.....but then I'd rather watch an ice hockey match than a football match so there we go.

I like F1, I dont watch it really but it is a skillful sport. NASCAR though :| I mean what skill is needed to drive at top speed in a circle. Thats boring.

Didn't you leave?

Anyway, F1.. love it. pissed off that the dirty german won yesterday but im tempted to put a couple of quid on raikonnen for the championship...

it's a long shot but it'd be sweet if he pulled it off, and its nice to not have the season decided back in wherever it was last year... it's nice to know that it's going down to the last race, despite the fact that all schumacher has to do is get 1 point or more isn't it? then its in the bag for him...

Because I've seen more than enough Formula 3, Formula Ford, Formula Vauxhall, Formula Renault, Seat Leons, Minis, Caterhams, TVR Tuscans, etc to know that most races are processional. The difference between these, and F1, is that F1 cars do over 200mph and brake to 60 in a couple of seconds. Also, there is quite a bit of overtaking, its just that you're not able to watch the entire circuit at once, from the comfort of your armchair.

Who is playing the age card ?

Mank you do realise all I did last night was give an opinion to you on the Sports Forum after critisising the motive behind ignus's post ....

Before you went off on one. Its all a bit defensive for someone who is claiming no alterier motive.

Back to F1

To be fair - Schumacher should have had the championship packaged and shipped ages ago - he deserves it - because he's won 6 races - and Kimi's only won 2.

This "closeness" is a load of bollocks that's created by the fact that whilst you get 10 points for a win you get 8 for second.....

It should have been modified to:

10, 7, 5, 3, 2, 1

or if they HAD to extend the points beyond the top six:

10, 7, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.

As it is - there's no real incentive to go for the race win (Montoya in Monza anyone?) and you get a smegging point for coming EIGHTH!!

And don't get me started on the artificial madness that is one-lap qualifying. :(

Back on topic -

I met a girl on Saturday who puts golf balls up her **** and then asks you to tee off :/

I saw one once who put the white snooker ball in her minge and the black one over the corner pocket - she then went and stood over the opposite corner pocket, shot the white ball out at a slimy pace and managed to pot the black.....

....on her third attempt...

:D

True that....!

I'm sure the acceleration and speed of the cars make it very exciting for the drivers, but that's not what makes a race enjoyable to watch (in my opinion).
In my experience, F1 racing is not the closest or most exciting motorsport (how often is the winner decided on the last lap, outside of engine failure?).

What has that link got to do with Krypts question. Why do people get all high and mighty about the fact that the same subject may have been touched on before:doh:

.

No please do shut up!!!

Were my words in flaming horror "YOU ARE WRONG" font on your computer because all I was doing was posting an old thread I started a while back about something simliar for krypt to read, not to point out that it's been done before.

I find F1 extremely boring, don't get me wrong, I dont hate it, I just think its a tedious 'sport'.

Rallying, now, I'd rather watch that than F1 any day of the week. It's more dangerous, it's more exciting to watch, and an Englishman is currently leading the championship, what more could you ask for? :D

And don't you think that rally drivers require more skill than F1 drivers?

Damn right they do.

Higher concentration level, able to handle the car better, a knowledge of mechanics, and faster reactions.

Yes, they're not going 'as' fast as an F1 car, but an F1 car isnt going 120mph through a narrow lane between trees.

I'm more impressed watching a rally car powerslide round a hairpin turn, than I am by the brake-apex-accelerate F1 car

rofl tbh

Trying to compare F1 drivers with Rally drivers is like trying to compare Jet Fighter Pilots with Air-Sea Rescue Helicopter pilots - both extrememly demanding skilled jobs, both completely different disciplines.

Higher concentration level - I'd like to see a rally driver go quite so fast without pace notes

Better handling ability - just plain bollocks

Knowledge of mechanics - oh so you don't think F1 drivers contribute to the design of their cars during the hundreds of hours of testing?

Faster reactions - prove it

It might just be me, but you probably need pretty fast reactions coming up to a chicane at a couple of hundred mph.

Muppet!!!!

I'd like to see a F1 driver go quite so fast without an onboard computer.

Better handling ability as you have no grip, F1 cars are so low they practically stick to the ground, you'd have difficulty losing the back end in an F1 car because of the grip.

design is very different to knowledge of mechanics, could an F1 driver jump out of his car and temporarily repair the throttle linkage, change a tyre, or any other minor repair.

yes faster reactions, you need them when you have no grip. F1 drivers these days rely on the computer systems to help them brake or change gear.

I've been rallying, have you?

Heh rally cars don't have onboard computers? Thats a new one

No grip? You won't be needing 4 wheel drive then eh?

An F1 driver couldn't repair his car, its not physically possible

Faster reactions, I say again, prove it.

1. No they don't not like F1 cars do, it doesn't control braking and gear changing.

2. 4 wheel drive makes no difference on a muddy track at 100mph, have you ever driven on ice.

3. Nullified your own point there

4. I have been rally driving, I crashed a lot because my reactions aren't fast enough.

Let's put it another way, F1 is a put your foot down race. WRC is a art form within a race.

As Tom says, the two sports are hard to compare. As far as reaction speed goes, I'm sure the best in each are similarly quick.

Apples and Pears I'm afraid.

You can't argue about who is the better drivers without looking silly, however you can argue the entertainment value of the two branches of the sport.

Please continue...
