Check the bottom of the page. Also, the contact details for the page goes to a GOA adress. Looks like another game semi-ruined for being hosted in France - and no its not a dig at GOA as such, i like you guys, i just dont like playing games hosted on france crappy internet backbone or anywhere near an Opentransit router.

Ill get the US version unless GOA hosts it in another country, which given that its owned by France Telecom isnt very likely.

Well im torn :(

I've never played on the USA servers but the whole Prydwen issue where GoA went for a repair over mythics advice to start over is something not to be ignored (but then theres that damn opentransit lag that sporadically happens and doesn't go away for a few days/weeks/months)

One thing that will sway it will be ingame CSR, lets hope that the powers to be at GoA implement/use that in WAR

Q. Where will European servers reside?
A. GOA has very successfully located the European servers for DAoC in one central data center near Paris. We expect this to also deliver excellent performance for WAR to players across Europe.

But something nice to counter that :) :-

Q. Will Europe and the US receive patches at the same time?
A. Not only will the game be released in the US and Europe simultaneously but patches and expansions will also reach both groups of players at the same time.

GOA bashers to your battlestations!

We have bandwagons leaving every 3 minutes jump on them while they're fresh!

sounds like things are a little more integrated this time around.

GOA despite their faults probably have a lot better chance at getting it right than joe company X (anyone remember CTO?)

Are Mythic so clueless that they don't realise the biggest problem with both DAoC and WoW in Europe is the Opentransit backbone that they both use due to hosting in France ?

I guess so.

ps - Not a GOA bash, I'm happy with pretty much everything about GOA other than the awful payment site and the network backbone they have to use due to the datacentre location.

Not questioning GOA's competece, always thought they ran an excellent show (well a bit more ingame support would not have hurt), not much actual server downtime, polite and helpfull GM's, pretty good at keeping cheating and farming down etc. My concern is purely over the fact that it will be hosted in France, Paris again. Both DAoC and WoW has suffered massively from this over the years, and its a bad call to host WAR there.

In all fairness we haven't had any horrible lag lately. Or I haven't had any, can't talk about the rest of you but there seems to be a shortage of lag threads

Looking at the page, it appears that it's more than just a franchise deal. I'm assuming GOA will be translating during patch development, instead of Mythic deploying a patch and then giving it to GOA.

Maybe it's a good thing, GOA does have more experience in Europe than Mythic. If GOA will be translating the game into both Spanish and Italian then WAR will reach even more players than WoW, it might even have some success in the Spanish market compared to the DAoC translation where they translated the game far too late.

The one good point is that we all have the knowledge and experience of playing DAoC from GOA, unless the situation is improved then it'll be one to avoid. Hopefully the situation with WAR will be far better than DAoC.

well, as flim said, better the devil you know
however, competent or not, i think the 2 months wait for expansions and patches will make me move to US, whatever they say im 100% sure there will be delay, and with the likelyhood of GOA not having decent ingame support - and thats quantity not quality, i have nothing but respect for the daoc GMs but they cant work 24/7 . i have played city of heroes + villains on US servers, and the time frame isnt a big problem there is usually people around etc, so all good.

will need to see if goa announce new staff etc and for more details first before making a final decision tho

Well, if they are patching both servers at the same time, patch waits and number of server downs for patching will be the same.

Guess the only choice for an EU player is :

Worse Lag vs. Fewer players at EU playing hours

most games that are only out, or start out, in the US have "unofficial EU servers" so the population isnt a concern :)

Sorry but there is just no way I will be playing on GOA servers again. Yes they have improved and the GM's do as good a job as they can but the quality of service has been appalling at times over the last 4.5 years, that is without mentioning the OpenTransit issues that really should have ended in court action.

I will take the extra bit of lag and use Mythic's servers, as long as there is periods of massive lag spikes like we had with OT routers I can cope to be honest.

Like Fana said, the problem isn´t GoA, but OT. France gave us a pretty good demonstration of their inability to run a game like DAoC reliably and stable, in addition to their lethargy to even recognize and address problems. It took them months and insane ammounts of pingplots before they even started working on the lag.
I can´t complain about the Service from GoA.

Before people jump to conclusions about the differences between US and EU servers, they may want to read the Questions and Answers posted on the official WAR Europe site.
Many of the misconceptions being expressed are covered there.

Regarding the siting of servers, our Paris datacentre is one of the busiest and most efficient in Europe. We have continually striven to provide the best possible hosting for the servers, including leading edge hardware, and have even taken extraordinary steps to counter problems in other networks. I'm not aware of any action taken by any other MMO provider to alleviate problems from outside their own network, to my knowledge we are unique in our efforts to aggressively resolve connectivity problems that we have no control over.

I would go along with that, 90% of the problem has been OT, it is a damn shame GOA can't break free of them.
